How big will this hotel be?

Why is the casino not stepping up to get the Streetcar extended to them? Have they engaged at all with this issue?

A 150-room casino hotel was previously contemplated. A streetcar extension to the casino would be fantastic but expensive. I'm not sure I see much value in it to the casino unless the casino hotel can serve downtown users.

St. Louis's downtown casino selected Four Seasons as the flag. The 200 room hotel is a loss leader for the casino but does serve the broader business/convention community AND no incentives were needed.

Previously approved site plan shows the streetcar platform and new hotel:

River Cruise Operator May Sail to Kansas City
...
At its meeting this week, the Port KC board was told a river cruise operator now sailing on the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers is interested in making Kansas City a port of call as part of a potential expansion to the Missouri River.
...
The American river cruise industry has been growing, and cities are vying for attracting what’s viewed to be a more affluent group of tourists, according to a recent report in Mississippi Today.
...
One incentive catching cruiser operators attention would be the ability of passengers to easily access city attractions on the streetcar extension that’s expected to reach the Berkley riverfront in 2025.

“With the streetcar open, it would give access to Union Station where people could book shuttles to the Truman Library and other places,” said Meredith Hoenes, a spokeswoman for Port KC.

The type of port envisioned for a river cruise operator would not be sophisticated. Because the Berkley riverfront is protected by a levy of riprap, any landing would have to be a floating dock that would fluctuate with river levels.

They have zero interest in paying for it from what I last heard.

The Origin Hotel, so far, looks better than the renderings depicted. Still some facade work to be done, but I'm pleasantly surprised. Maybe it's because I thought it was going to be aluminum or fiber cement panels, but its real brick.

Developer drops 254-apartment plan at Berkley Riverfront; Port KC searches for a new builder

Lux Living will not move forward with a $55 million apartment development at Berkley Riverfront.

In May 2022, Lux failed to secure a desired 25-year property tax abatement for a seven-story complex with 254 units and 2,598 square feet of commercial space from the Port Authority of Kansas City. Opposition from numerous residents — who cited tenant complaints and municipal and legal concerns reported about Lux projects in its native St. Louis — resulted in a final vote falling through. Nevertheless, Lux went on that September to net final plan approval from the City Plan Commission to build the apartments on about 2.2 acres.
...
Joe Perry, the port's vice president of real estate, said developers had started inquiring about Lux's site even while it was still under contract. Now, an eventual substitute apartment project could have a similar scale to what Lux had contemplated, though Perry said he is not yet at liberty to say who might build it.

"We are actively replacing that contract right now," he said. "We have two or three developers waiting in the wings, and we've had multiple offers."

I really liked the looks of that project, but would be nice if the Port Authority could replace it with something taller.

I’m sure Port Authority is already looking for new developer, has one ready, or a waiting list of suitors ready to pitch their plan for the land

OK Joes and now Billie's Grocery announced as restaurant partners for the Current Stadium. These are just open Gameday right? And not to the general public on gameday?

Work began Monday on the new beer joint in the park.

Development team breaks ground on waterfront beer garden now called Two Birds, One Stone
Port KC and The Thrash Group began construction Monday on a publicly owned waterfront beer garden in Berkley Riverfront Park.

As with its new name, the groundbreaking ceremony served a dual purpose: generating buzz for the growing neighborhood and revealing the name for its latest project. The nearly 8,200-square-foot, two-story space will be known as Two Birds, One Stone.
...
The state agency teamed up with Thrash Group which is the developer behind Origin Hotel Kansas City. The Hattiesburg, Mississippi-based company broke ground on the five-story boutique hotel in December.

Although Thrash Group is developing the beer garden, it will be publicly owned by Port KC.

Port KC officials earlier this month shared goals for the new hotel to be completed in spring 2024 and the beer garden to be completed by the Fourth of July.

It is an honor to have Woodwether Terminal as a namesake as it is the fastest growing port in the Midwest, and Kansas City is the 2nd largest port destination in the Midwest.
Thank you
@portkc!

Missouri invested $37 million in FY24 in PortKC. These infrastructure funds will be used to renovate its existing Missouri River port and support the construction of a separate, 2nd port — the Missouri River Terminal.

I have various opinions of Parson, but fair enough that he has helped support the Port terminal.
