beer.
Re: beer.
Stella is horrible. It tastes stale all the time, just like Pilsener Urquell, Heineken, and 1664. I have had the other three beers in Europe, and they are delicious there. In the US, since the companies insist on having the word, "IMPORTED" on the label, these beers are loaded up with flavor-killing preservatives, and are often pasteurized.
Beer thrives as a local resource. When you try to go global with beer, you usually will screw it up.

Yeah, they make the Guinness we drink here, in Jamaica.
People really get excited about beer being imported. To me, it just basically guarantees that it'll be past its prime.

When I was in Oz for school, "my beer" was Melbourne Bitter. The popular nation-wide beer there is called Victoria Bitter, affectionetly called "VB". (You Microsoft programmers might think it's a little strange to walk in to a pub and say "Gimmie a VB!") Others I remember include Carlton Draught (Ooo! Go here, it's funny! http://www.bigad.com.au/ ), Cascade Lager, and Carlton Cold (like Natty Light...bleh). Then there's NT Draught (Northern Terrority). Places are so far away there that it's served in 2 litre bottles. Now that's big.

Re: beer.
They had that ad on the Crickters Arms Web Site (My favorite bar in America, located near the convention center in Orlando). It used to be the only place in the states you could get Marstons on tap. It was one of their FOUR hand drawn beers. Doesn't look like thay have it now.Kard wrote: Bigger isn't always better. (Most of the time is it, though.)

Here is their current list of hand drawns.
Hand Drawn Ales
London Pride - England's most sought-after session-strength premium ale.
Fullers ESB - Multi-award winning and Extra Special in every sense, this is the ultimate ale.
Old Speckled Hen - This beer has a wonderful, warm flavor bursting with body. Indulge yourself.
Tetley's - Famous for it's swirl of bubbles when poured. From Yorkshire, England.
And the rest of the taps
Bitters, Stouts, Ales
Killian's Irish Red (USA)
Boddingtons Ale (England)
Newcastle Brown Ale (England)
Guinness (Ireland)
Bass Ale (England)
Import Lagers
Fosters (Australia)
Carlsberg (England)
It's a can't miss line up. I expect to be passed out there in June.

Re: beer.
If you're in Orlando, the Back Booth, downtown, is not to be missed. They have a much greater tap selection than what you listed. Here's a pic I took of their taps, a couple years ago. Enjoy the low-quality, off-center view.

Re: beer.
alright, has anybody seen new belgiums loft around? kard? are they trying to replace it with SKINNY DIP?
"New Belgium’s Skinny Dip is a full-bodied, figure-friendly beer perfect for the lightly attired summer months.
Cascade hops frolic with kaffir lime and ample malt to create a bright, citrusy nose that’s as crisp as chilling in a mountain pond. Skinny Dip * a most revealing beverage.
110 calories per 12oz serving"

Re: beer.
I tried it yesterday at Harry's where they have it on tap. Very disappointing. Low calorie + low carb = low flavor. It's very light on taste. They are still pouring Biere de Mars there, though, which I recommend.
Re: beer.
just picked up the newest Lagunitas Seasonal Brew-
Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale.
This is not in the normal rotation. We should be at #10; BUT
It says this on the label-
"We Brewed this Especially Bitter Ale In Remembrance of the 2005 St. Patrick's Day Massacre
And in Celebration of Our 20 Day Suspension
Back in January of this Year!"
"WHATEVER.
WE'RE STILL HERE."

This is true. It is available at 12/Baltimore, and it's delicious. I recommend everyone go and get some of it.DaveKCMO wrote: PREFACE: i am not a beer afficionado, but...

Re: beer.
It seems I'm the only person in Kansas City that dislikes this beer, and I love nitrogen draughts. It's way too sweet for me. I think it tastes a little something like a Werther's Original.bahua wrote: This is true. It is available at 12/Baltimore, and it's delicious. I recommend everyone go and get some of it.
Is it expensive at 12/Baltimore? Governor Stumpy's charged us $4 a pint.
Re: beer.
I've been twice. The first time, I was loaded and talkative, so they only charged me for one. The second time, Kard picked up the check.
But yes, they're pretty expensive. About $5.50 a draw iirc.
