Penthouse Key Club

I heard Penthouse magazine plans to open one of their trendy upscale clubs called Penthouse Key Club in the Totally Nude Temptations spot on Grand.  The owners hope to cash in on the new arena being built in downtown.  Penthouse currently has a small chain of licensed clubs nationwide and are often compared to Larry Flynt's Hustler Clubs.  They are luxurious, serve food and drink, and cater to both men and women.  Because patrons at the clubs can choose from a list of champagnes, cognacs and so on, the dancers can no longer be "totally" nude.

Yeah they've been talking about that for at least a year or more, but so far nothing has happened.

I think they've finally applied for their liquor license, so we'll see if there is some movement now.

Penthouse Club on the way

There have been occaisional reports over the last couple of years that Penthouse Club is looking to cash in on the Downtown boom. It looks like they have settled on converting Totally Nude Temptations (formerly Zeigfields), at 15th and Grand in the Crossroads. The juice bar is applying for a liquor license (there fore no more total nudity) and the city has issued several construction and renovation permits under the Penthouse name. The location is just two blocks from the Sprint Center and Power & Light District, and about 6 blocks from the convention center and hotels. The KC club would be Penthouse’s seventh.

I was riding the bus the other day, and I helped myself to eavesdrop on the conversation of some people sitting nearby. They were well-dressed businessmen, who I think were from out of town. They were talking about how there's not much to do in downtown Kansas City right now, but that that will all change when the Power and Light district comes. They said that it would include a Penthouse Club, and both seemed really excited about that, saying that gentleman's clubs are a requirement for any convention district that has regular business travelers. That hadn't occurred to me, but it makes perfect sense.

If it's taking the place of TNT, this makes even more sense.

I think it would be great if the Penthouse Club had a large velvet painting of Jerry Falwell in it.  Heck, why not name a strip club Falwell's after the great Moral Crusader and object of Larry Flynt.

it is coming soon. they already have the go ahead from penthouse and my liquor control guy confirmed it. the guy who owns temptations also owns the newly plushly renovated pure strip joint on 350 and noland road. if you checked out the sports section on sunday you will see that the usual temptations ad in the back of the sports section is gone and has been replaced by ads for his new pure strip bar.

They should auction off the "Totally Nude" sign.  That thing is a landmark!

Maybe it has something to do with the type of dancers it has.  Pure dancers as opposed to impure dancers.

Or maybe they don't actually dance but do a Gypsy Rose Lee type of strip.

Don't all the strip bars that serve alcohol in KC have strippers who must keep their thongs on or something.  There are totally nude ones (obviously) but they can't serve alcohol at those locations...maybe at this one they can be totally nude and serve alcohol.  ?

Once an establishment sells alcohol a new set of laws enter the picture.  That is why juice bars can have total nudity (and other things) and an alcohol serving strip club still has to have the dancer's "private" parts covered.

Of course, any establishment is free to break the laws.

Totally nudity is only allowed if there is no alcohol served.  If alcohol is served, they have to wear a g-string.

Maybe "pure" stripping means no lap dances, only stripping shows on stage (pure speculation).  Sounds like an unlikely business model for a strip club though...

I'm all for this.  Kansas City needs to maintain some of its' old bawdy reputation. The prim and proper crowd can just go screw themselves in their concealed, make-shift dungeons.
