OFFICIAL - 909 Walnut construction

Post by Electric_Cactus »

When driving north on 71 tonight towards downtown, I saw lights on in the upper floors of the Fidelity Bank Building. Since this is the first time in my two year recollection that I've seen anything remotely resembling the presence of electrical power in the building, I decided to detour onto Admiral and drive down there to check it out. I drove right in front of the building, and saw that the chandeliers in the foyer were lit, and it looks like they're making progress in cleaning the lobby. I am very happy to see this huge building go to good use. It's think it's very good news for downtown.

Biz Journal just announced that a contractor has been selected. They chose a firm named Weitz. They expect construction to start in December, with the building opening in spring 2005.

Diagrams

The diagrams for the building on display in the ground level of City Center Square indicate that the two towers on top of the building will be dramatically lit up at night.

Display

Post by FangKC »

There are displays on the ground floor level at the northeast corner of City Center Square in the empty commercial space there. You can see them from outside the building through the windows. They have examples of the kitchen cabinets and signboards with the exterior of the building, floorplans, and computer-generated examples of the interior spaces of the apartments.

I'm excited about this project! Does anyone know what the tallest residential buildings are in other Midwest cities (besides Chicago)? I know this one will be the tallest in the 4-state region.

Thanks Devin! That's what I kinda thought, but didn't know for sure. More braggin' rights for us I guess... That building will look absolutely awesome all lite up at night! It's one of my favorites already because of the deco-design.

I took the bus downtown for lunch today and went down Main to check out the floor plans. Very exciting stuff. It looks like the penthouses will be stacked, so your living room will run down the entire gap between the towers and the bedrooms will be more "lofted." Imagine the amazing panoramic view from the room between the towers. I dream about being rich enough to buy one of those. It looks like the other tower serves as the "lobby/stairwell" for your space.

My only complaint is that the floorplans show the bathrooms facing only to the bedrooms. If I get a place in 909, you had better believe I'll be doing a lot of entertaining. I don't want everyone trudging through my bedroom to do their business.

The smallest floorplan is 600 some square feet, a studio, and it ranges up to 1400 or so, if I recall, for the two bedroom. The news has told us to expect $1.25 per square foot rentals, so do the math.

Anyone know if there is any chance we can get a sneak peak at any of this goodness?

Go to admit...pretty hard to sell this space for $1.2M in this condition...

Although the view would simply rock:

The article talks about the outdoor patio....I'm not scared of heights but the shape that outdoor walkway was in when I went up there, no freaking way I was going to walk out there........it would be pretty wild to have an outdoor patio 35 floors up.
