wider river and different channel position = different bridgepash wrote:St Louis's version has two towers?! They always get the cooler stuff!
longer bridge in StL by almost 50% over KC
skinnier at 6 lanes vs 8 lanes in KC
both towers are shorter too. 400 feet vs 550 feet in KC
more cables in KC, 13x8 vs 10x4 in KC

St. Louis has the world's best bridge fans. Just ask them.

No, STL just gets more funding from MODOT than KC. It has nothing to do with a wider river, and different channel position. Don't kid yourself.
Also, I'd check your facts again. The Bond bridge is not 550ft tall, it's 316ft. To even believe that it's over 500ft tall is laughable, as KC's tallest building is barely that height.
One other thing, our bridge is 6 lanes..not 8.

of course it gets more funding, there's roughly twice as many people on the MO side of StL as the Missouri side of KC. It should get more funding.im2kull wrote:flyingember wrote: wider river and different channel position = different bridge

You are right on the height of the bridge, but One KC Place is 624 feet tall.

7 lanes. there's an onramp lane that sticks around to become an offramp lane on the other side when going NB. it works because it was designed to have 8 lanes of traffic somedayim2kull wrote: One other thing, our bridge is 6 lanes..not 8.

They don't include the on-ramp/off-ramp as an actual lane when counting lanes either, so it's just 6 with no plans for expansion.flyingember wrote:7 lanes. there's an onramp lane that sticks around to become an offramp lane on the other side when going NB. it works because it was designed to have 8 lanes of traffic somedayim2kull wrote: One other thing, our bridge is 6 lanes..not 8.
I knew somebody would mention this, a little surprised it took that long lol!

yeah, completely wrong. it's obvious you aren't learning about the bridge facts before making statementsim2kull wrote:They don't include the on-ramp/off-ramp as an actual lane when counting lanes either, so it's just 6 with no plans for expansion.flyingember wrote:7 lanes. there's an onramp lane that sticks around to become an offramp lane on the other side when going NB. it works because it was designed to have 8 lanes of traffic somedayim2kull wrote: One other thing, our bridge is 6 lanes..not 8.

here's the same type of info for the StL bridgeQ: What type of new bridge will be constructed
A: A: A 6-lane, landmark, cable-stay, Missouri River bridge expandable to eight lanes.
http://www.newriverbridge.org/overview-bridge.html
The bridge is two lanes in each direction, but is wide enough to be restriped for three lanes in each direction if traffic volumes warrant and additional funding is secured.

Love the reflection. The river appears deceptively calm.
