Antonio's Pizza

Post by KCLofts »

Antonio's Pizzeria has now joined the Walnut Deli in the River Market.

Along with this change, the combined deli/pizzeria is now open nights - 10pm Monday-Thursday and 11pm on Friday and Saturday.

I guess they still have their Midtown location don't they?

Antonio's used to have this great spicy tomato sauce (late 80's early 90's), it was wonderful... all regular unspicy pizzas seem dull by comparison. It seems like they got rid of their spicy sauce though, the last few times I've eaten pizza from Antonio's it was blandified sauce, probably to suit the masses who are squeamish at the slightest hint of spicyness.

Last time I had pizza from there was like three or four years ago though.

How I wish you could get spicy pizza sauce again somewhere.

Sweet!!! I like Antonios thin crust, having other night eating option is nice.

One question though, where is Walnut Deli? I don't think I've ever seen it.

Its between Vivace and Planter's, on Walnut. Its been open for about 3 years, although think there was a name/ownership change somewhere during that time.

No kidding. Bland sauce seems to be the rule nowadays at most pizza joints.

So that begs the question, do any metro pizza joints have spicy sauce?

Antonio's also has a location in the food court in the City Center Square building.

I was looking for pizza downtown last night and tried to find this place, but was unsuccessful. I know which block it's supposed to be on, but couldn't see any thing lit up while driving by.

walnut deli is at 527 Walnut according to the handy dandy downtown directory.

It's just south of Kabal.

Well, now I'm not so sure about the hours. They advertised the later hours on a flyer. But we went by about 9:00 on Saturday night and they were closed.

I went tonight....this place is what I've been begging for...a good deli that is open late. Check this place out.....places won't stay open if we don't frequent them during the dinner hour and later. Let them know there is the demand out there. I had the Bo Jackson and it was one of the better deli sandwiches I've had. Serious good eats.

Their take home menus and door sign say open till 10p m-u and 11pm f-s...not positive about sunday.

Must have. I just drove by and all of the lights were out. I wonder if this is a permanent thing, or a seasonal thing? When it was just the Walnut Deli, they were only open on weekends during the summer when the city market was busy.

Either way, it seems kind of flaky. I don't know if they were ever open as late as they said they were going to be.

I've always said the Antonios is by far the best pizza in KC. Torre's is pretty good too. I hope some more of the top places like that open a place in downtown. I mean we need things in downtown that represent KC's best and are unique to this city. LC's and Strouds would be some great places to have in downtown also. I hope the city finds a way to persuade some of these people to come that way instead of letting the new downtown be dominated by cookie cutter places like Hard Rock that can be found in any city. I feel like that would help make KC a distinguishable place that visitors would remember fondly and want to return to.

I'm so sad to hear that.

One of my first memories of KC was six years ago after being told about an obscenely enormous, double-decker slice with enough meat to make a vegan faint. -and being offered "candy" in the parking lot as I sweated out 100 degree heat in my friend's air conditioner-less car. I'll never forget that glamorous, tasty experience.

It's probably mostly the same in the river market, but it's not 39th and main...

I haven't ordered from there since the delivery driver attacked me for calling him 2 blocks outside their delivery area. I tipped him a ten spot too....

I will miss the $40 gourmet pizza...

the double-decker slice was fabulous, and I always found Antonios the kind of divey, quirky place that makes me love midtown...oh well, at least this will open up space for a much-needed check-cashing superstore or bloodbank.
