Re: P&L District: 14th & Walnut Site Proposal
I think this should be titled "14th and Walnut"
ESPN Zone is obviously what they have in mind for "Sports and Media." I also thought ESPN would be awesome to have across the street from the new arena-- a perfect fit. If they land ESPN Zone...we won't have much to worry about with P&L.
I'm also thinking a large format Apple store for the "Technology Retail" just south of the ESPN Zone.

Yeah almost has to be ESPNzone...makes me wonder is this site plan just laid out as what they'd like to see with retailers in mind to go after or was this plan laid out after getting specific retailers signed/close to signing then designing? Big difference.

Don't mean to be a pessimist, but I think it is what they want rather than what they have. ESPN is the big kahuna of tenants. If they get 'em everything else will fall into place.KCPowercat wrote:Yeah almost has to be ESPNzone...makes me wonder is this site plan just laid out as what they'd like to see with retailers in mind to go after or was this plan laid out after getting specific retailers signed/close to signing then designing? Technology store is really, really good.
Think about it, there is no large technology store in the urban core. You have to drive forever to get to surburbia to get a circuit city, best buy, etc. The only closest thing, brandsmart on gregory, closed. Man, a good downtown computer store would be excelent. I kindof doubt Apple would do it, they are moving into a Plaza location.
Any good electronics/computer store would be great for the area

tk...I kind of agree but these are pretty specific sizes and genes of stores so I was just wondering how everybody else's feel on that was.

The Apple store on the Plaza is under 3,000 square feet which is pretty tiny. I wouldn't be surprised if Cordish tried to get Apple because of the sexiness of the brand. The stores are also a true destination and retailtainment. Because the Plaza store is so small I could see Apple doing a larger, flagship store downtown. Remember...this is also a tourist district.kcteen wrote:Technology store is really, really good.

"Technology Retail" could be the spot for the Sprint PCS store. I hightly doubt Apple would go for a second KC store any time soon. Most of their current focus is on filling in market gaps with smaller stores.

That's something I never thought of. But the world's biggest Sprint Store? Let me get in line...dangerboy wrote:"Technology Retail" could be the spot for the Sprint PCS store. Re: P&L District: 14th & Walnut Site Proposal
OK I'm going to go through all these and select my dream team of retailers given the guidelines of the site plan and then my best guess.
Signature restaurant = Emeril's
sports and media = ESPNzone (please NOT Fox sports cafe)
tech retail = Sprint PCS makes perfect sense
Theme of this block = feed the arena

Wasn't there a Silo on Main, near Westport Road? That chain went under years ago, but I think the sign is still up.kcteen wrote:Technology store is really, really good.

Yes. It's not for everyone's taste or budget, but it would be a draw. I've eaten at the one in NO, and it's good. Emeril's is in a couple other cities now, but I haven't heard about whether they have ambitions to expand further. Worth a shot, though.KCPowercat wrote:Signature restaurant = Emeril's

Jus' hope the signature restaurant isn't a Tony Roma's!

Re: P&L District: 14th & Walnut Site Proposal
In a release to Sprint associates today, Forsee wrote that the planned retail store is 10,000 square feet. That doesn't match the "technology" store space on this site plan.

Re: P&L District: 14th & Walnut Site Proposal
i'm betting these continue to be preliminary design ideas. they've got some time left to tweak the square footage, etc.
Are you sure we're talking about the same God here, because yours sounds kind of like a dick.
