The old black "Park Here" sign is pretty cool.  I wouldn't mind seeing that stay, just for fun.

Oh lighten up.

I just think it looks interesting.  If you want to associate all this emotional baggage with it, fine, but sometimes its ok to just appreciate something for what it is.

I've decided I want the tree for myself!  I'll be taking it.

The "Park Here" sign was purchased by Applebee's for their 95th Street location.

Some actually does remain. Granted, it is falling down and not much of it does, but there is still some of the original plaster mouldings and ceiling adornments. There is also still the extensive stone work. The original balcony is still there too, but it was sealed up prolly in the 50's. When we made our trip there there was a hole punched in the cinder block wall, so we where able to explore that area.

From  the Star on 9/13:
Cordish will be seeking to have the Empire Theater listed on the National Register of Historic Places, a designation that would make its planned renovation into a movie and restaurant complex eligible for state and federal historic tax credits. An architectural firm is being sought for both the Empire and the Midland projects.

I have noticed the pigions are not going down quietly, may have to use eminent domain.

How did they take it down? Chain saw and yank the roots out of the roof?  I am kind of curious about how one goes about taking out a tree that is growing out of the top of a building.

I will miss those trees.  There is something romantic about ruins, like the Forum Romanum in the 19th century.

Have they started working on the interior of the Empire yet?
I was just looking at the webcam and noticed the stuff circled in red below, I can't decipher what it is.

I jogged by there the other day when everyone had gone home and saw that there were lights on inside at about 7 PM, so something has been going on.

Anyone know what is going on with the Empire?  Doesn't seem like much has been happening here for a while.

There's interior work going on... I saw some workers going in a few days ago, and they have those bags on the windows that they use when moldy materials or asbestos is being pulled out.
