If you head down to the airshow this weekend, don't be fooled by the "green" grass you see everywhere... they spray painted it some yesterday.

Will be watching the airshow from the comfort of my deck with a frosty cold one in hand. Excellent.

Which building are you in? I've got an invite to hang out at Landmark.

Are they closing the Broadway Bridge again for the air show? If so, what days/times is the air show?

Well, all of the information can be found here:
http://www.kcairshow.com - we did the web site, but the client has since screwed up the logo and most of the content.

I see nothing about the bridge being closed, but they do mention the running of buses. I think it will be. It's fun to walk over that bridge when there's not a thousand cars screaming past you on both sides.

We've always gone early and parked at the bridge abutment above the RR tracks at the city end of the runway.

It is cool having the planes fly right over your head.

Last time, we got there too late and had to rely on the bus, so we parked up by the Folger's building and walked since the bus lines were so long.

If we were going this year, we would again go early and park down by the bridge.

Be sure to take plenty of sunscreen and drinking water.

I actually don't like air shows, I was just wondering about the bridge because I have to go up north during the time the show is going on. :)

According to kcscout.net the I-70 exits leading to Broadway will be closed for the air show but it doesn't say whether the briedge itself will be closed. I'm kinda betting it will be though.

This is like Christmas being able to watch all of the practicing for the air show. I forgot what it was like since there wasn't one last year. The Red Barons just landed.

For different reasons, you and I could very well have two of the coolest workday views in KC. :)

I'm at Conover. I might go over to Landmark on the 4th for a party on the roof. Depends on if I get all of my chores done before our party that evening.

I got up early to go to the airport on Wednesday and saw a couple of biplanes cruising around downtown. I'm really looking forward to the full show this weekend.

The airshow is freakin' awesome! The planes were great, especially the jets. Wow, what a sight and sound as they go tearing across the downtown skyline.

But I'm most amazed by the people - they're everywhere. There was a constant stream of people walking across the Broadway bridge all day today. Tons of people hanging out at Case park, on the State Street parkign garage, and on top of most buildings downtown. I even saw some folks on top of the Marriott. People who didn't even know what was going on had pulled off to the side of the highway to watch the F-16s run.

Kudos to the mayors and whoever else had a hand on getting this show going again this year. This is a great event for downtown and I hope they keep it going every year.

Maybe the wrong place for this post, but it came up during the airshow.

Since I have no roof access on my building, I roamed around the market for awhile on Friday and found a lot of folks in a lot just north of 2nd between the bridge and Delaware to the east. This is an odd lot...broken up pavement. I pulled up a terraserver pic of this lot and it was in use as of 1996, maybe by the railroad.

Does anyone know what this lot is? Who owns it? Plans for this area?

Yep, that's what it was. Usually the gate is locked but it was open this weekend. Don't know if it was legitimately open but The Man wasn't out there harrassing anyone who was in there. :)

Today has to be one of the best days of the year to live in the River Market. Sunny, cool breeze and planes buzzing over your building.
