What would you like downtown?

Ok, I'm curious, what does everything think downtown should have or needs that isn't proposed already?
Such as more parking garages, parks, etc...?

With all the proposals (arena, PAC, KC Live, H&R Block) it seems as though many of the "needs" will be met. I'd just like to see continued support of downtown development, like the Crossroads Art District Association.

I mailed my check the other day for individual membership in this association. Check them out at http://www.crossroadscommunityassociation.org

I'd like to see the start of some family-oriented development to compliment the bars, nightclubs, theater, etc.

maybe a downtown 'family scene' will one day overshadow the 'strip club' scene that gives kc mo a black eye

like what exactly? Crown Center/Union Station type complex is more where the family stuff is organized....I doubt we'll see a chucky cheese.

I'd like to see more museums, like a History of Kansas City museum. Or that renovated factory in downtown StL that is a kids-museum (can't remember what it was called exactly).

Also, I'd like to see an Imax downtown that plays feature films and not just educational ones (wtf is Union Station thinking?) Seeing Matrix, LOTR, or Harry Potter on an Imax downtown near KC LIve! would be fun for adults AND kids and a better location than the zoo. Many in the northland would much prefer the downtown location.

I think that youth need to start coming downtown just as much as the 21+ crowd. Obvisouly the arena will be all ages, but I think as much as possible should be done to show kids from throughout the metro (esp. joco) that downtown KCMO is "cool". The library is a big step. Crown Center needs to help by stepping up programming, as does Union Station. But some sort of fun family oriented attractions in the loop would be integral, I think...like the gamezone (sorry, dont know the name, the big arcade place) or whatever we were talking about for the old Fitz's location. Maybe KC Live! will incorporate some of this, i hope so, but I hope eventually downtown KC is a draw for both teenagers and 21+ after nightfall and during the weekend. I think movie theaters (Even with something similar to the fascist Plaza policy) would be great for downtown as well...come on AMC

The Strip club scene does NOT give kc a black eye. It is a neccesary evil.

The ones currently open meet and or exceed ALL intended licensing requirements. I will not divulge my affilitation with them but lets say Im not just a patron at 2.

Enough said there. I am glad that all the redevelopment is taking place so close to bazookas and leggs. the advertising potential is exceptional.

The last time the business was so good at these places was opening day at the K, (yes its true and Im not kidding)

Now you dont want strip clubs, the city forced them to be where they are , and cannot make them move under the adult entertainment licensing agreement they were forced to sigh 7 years ago.

You want to come on down , I can get you in for nothing at any one in KC.
From the SHow, diamond joes, leggs, bazookas, shady lady , gerrys silver slipper, bonita flats, tangos where do you want to go!!

More public art!!

The urban culture project thing is cool, but let's turn over stretches of downtown to artists and designers. One example: Seek out design concepts on how to bridge people, cars and transit over I-70 or I-670 on the loop edges-- make it a public art project.

Some nice big signs describing what and where everything is, and some form of transit from Union Station/CC thru the Crossroads and the Loop to the River Market (if we can't ever have a whole line, a small one to ferry people around downtown would still be wonderful). Even an easy to use, fast BRT would be reasonable if they have bright, clean stops and they make good time.

Oh and to go along with the idea of family oriented activities : I think KC needs some kind of great red-light district. Some kind of area of bars, jazz clubs, dance and strip clubs, etc. to bring back a little bit of that old 'Paris on the plains' Old West magic 8). Not necessarily incredibly dirty just a bit more 'permissive' than the average city district... :)

We are already a very family friendly metro - you hear it all the time of KC and StL -"good city to raise a family". We need to embrace our free-spirited history....somewhere at least if not downtown. Near 18th and Vine would be awesome.

the signs should be coming this summer.

The avenue of arts is going up.....haven't seen it in the paper but I've seen 2 seperate displays being installed already.

An awesome fountain in the middle of KC Live is almost mandatory isn't it?

18th and Vine is NOT where we need a red light district because of socio-historical factors.

We should, in the next 25 years, built an adult entertainment district along part of the Riverfront with all our casinos, bars, strip clubs, and porno shops located there. Gate the place off and require an ID just to enter.

I know it won't happen, but KC should get rid of ALL the strip clubs, casinos and adult movie/book stores. Plus get rid of all the prostitutes. (jail em)

I'm talking about things like more residential? more grocery stores?
Or any big projects that you think downtown needs or should have.

I know this is a point where agreement is impossible but I think the casinos and strip clubs are an asset as long as they are kept in specific areas. You've got to cater to all forms of entertainment to have a thriving city.

No comment on the hookers. ;)

It's too bad our shortsighted forefathers leveled the original red light district around 12th & Vine.

a red light district, should it exist, should be hidden from tourists and people just taking a drive around town, unless they know where it is.
It especially should be seen from places like Liberty Memorial, City Hall, etc...

Since strip clubs in KC are not my thing, (what a shocker!), can't comment on them. The last strip club I went into was Big Daddy's in New Orleans, on Bourbon St. The sign outside says: "Live Sex Acts on revolving stage! No cover, 2 drink minimum". It was quite educational, especially since I was 16 at the time.

Live sex acts , women in cages.... thats what they used to have at the ELLWEST theatre on troost till they tore it down with brush creek renovation...

Devin would be shocked if he went into bazookas, I ought to take him there and get him a good lap dance
