Not the only academic center in KC. Truman/UMKC has an academic program that includes rotations with St. Luke's. As a KU grad I take pride in the development of the KU Med complex and academic program, but still need to give props to the UMKC program--the only 6 year residency program in the area and a producer of some really good docs.
Also don't forget the DO school in Northeast KC. Only provides med school and no residencies, but does send quite a few of their graduates to the local academic programs.

Yes, you are right, I should have written "university hospital".

Construction equipment is onsite and working at the former motel site. Drilling piers or maybe doing the geotech work.

Mr. Goodcents will unveil a new design for their stores with the opening of one at 41st and Rainbow this September
http://www.kansascity.com/2011/08/09/30 ... cents.htmlIt will have more earthtones, contemporary tile, and three service lines ? dine-in or carry-out, delivery or catering, and a drive-thru.
It also will have a new name, just Goodcents, with the tag line: deli fresh subs. The new restaurant also will serve salads and wraps, along with the full-line of hot and cold sub sandwiches.
?We?re kind of a hybrid, certainly not fast food and not fast casual, but a combination ? low check average but high quality food,? Goebel said.

Goodcents is going to start serving high quality food? That IS news!
Re: 39th St./KU Med development?
I'm a little bummed something in the new development will have a drive thru - I thought the most recent designs still had ground-level retail in a continuous strip fronting Rainbow?
Re: 39th St./KU Med development?
This is actually a little further south of the new Rainbow development, I believe.kcjak wrote: I'm a little bummed something in the new development will have a drive thru - I thought the most recent designs still had ground-level retail in a continuous strip fronting Rainbow?

It is also reusing an existing building ( the former KFC) that already had a drive thru
Re: 39th St./KU Med development?
The hotel across from KU Med is basically done (on the outside). Holiday Inn Express signs were up. Barricades now are surrounding the houses and former bar (Jayhawker) to the north. Looks like they are going to demo soon. I think office and retail will go there.
Dirt is moving on the apartment complex on 39th and state.
All good projects for the area.

Wonder when the Five Guys will open?
Re: 39th St./KU Med development?
It's about time the KU med area saw some development. That area should be so much more built up than it is.

KU Med wanting to continue growing its ever expanding foot print.

The houses and the Jayhawker next to the newly built hotel have come down over the past week. Only the little strip on the corner is left, but seems to be soon to follow.
Re: 39th St./KU Med development?
Good riddance. The hotel looks really nice and the 5 Guys spot on the first floor appears to be nearly built out and signage complete. Between this and the new building at 39th/State Line the whole area will have a different feel.

Anchor tenants signed for 39Rainbow project
The University of Kansas Hospital will locate an inpatient acute rehabilitation center on the second floor of the four-story building at the southwest corner of 39th Street and Rainbow Boulevard.
Kansas City Transitional Care Center, a subsidiary of Skilled Healthcare Group Inc., will operate a post-acute skilled nursing rehabilitation facility on the third and fourth floors.
The building’s first floor will house a common lobby, and yet-to-be-named retail tenants.
Re: 39th St./KU Med development?
Drove by today and am really impressed with the building. The street level facade is very urban, with stone-like surfaces and a heavy awning on a chain. Took a phone pic I'll post.
