Haha, yeah, I've ridden subways in basically every USA city that has one and never run into one quite that uniquely and strongly aromatic.

Glad to hear you had a good time! It's funny because the issues you listed with SEPTA particularly wayfinding and the ticket machines, are all (theoretically) under review right now but the agency's pace on updates is glacial. They only just last week announced an RFP to start taking mobile payments on trains and buses. Something Chicago and London have been doing for years and even NYC has finally deployed. Disappointing that SEPTA doesn't move faster. I think a combination of institutional inertia and funding.

Back in the day when NYC accepted coin tokens for their transit system, you could also use them to pay for things in corner bodegas since they accepted them as currency and just resold to customers who needed bus tokens.
