Bi-State Sustainable Reinvestment Corridor

Post by normalthings »

The Bi-State Sustainable Reinvestment Corridor plans to target federal funding for zero-emissions transportation, including electric buses, expanded KC Streetcar and bus service, and bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure; affordable and energy-efficient housing; green infrastructure, like urban trees, charging stations for electric vehicles and stormwater upgrades; improvements to broadband access; public-safety technology, like an additional Shot Spotter and license-plate readers; economic development, including workforce training and child care; and improvements to the energy efficiency for schools and public libraries.

Cleaver's office said the comprehensive plan would create nearly 85,000 jobs and substantially improve the quality of life for nearly 91,000 residents who live within a half-mile of the corridor.

The Corridor has been endorsed by the Mid-America Regional Council, Kansas City Area Transportation Authority and RideKC, according to a release from Cleaver’s office
24 miles from Village West to Independence.

KSHB notes streetcar expansion but other providers only mentioned electric BRT.

If this entity can pull off a BRT from Independence Square to the Legends with 10-15 min headways, level boarding, and green infrastructure I would be extremely impressed. Even if the 10-15 head ways only were from the Ave, around Winner where ridership picks up, to 7th St in KCK and the rest of the line was every half an hour to an hour depending on needs. This plus the KU Med-TSC Connector will be a huge game changer for transit. Still wish we could have bus only lanes implemented though Independence Ave is one of the only streets that actually uses all of its driving lanes.

Only electric BRT. If streetcar gets built anywhere in this corridor it would not be 24 miles long.

Existing studies:

Independence - https://ridekc.org/planning/independenc ... lity-study
State - https://www.kcata.org/transit-initiatives/state_ave

There will be some effort to blend these services that were planned and are currently operated as separate routes (which today connect along 11th/12th streets). The existing 24 Independence is co-funded by KCMO and Independence, while the 101 State Ave. is funded by the Unified Government. The 24 is frequent between downtown KCMO and Winner/White (just shy of the Independence border) with less frequent Mon-Sat trips going all the way to the Independence Transit Center. The 101 runs every 30 minutes from Barney Allis Plaza to Village West and is the only KCK route operating on Sundays. This combined corridor would connect to virtually every regional route, including streetcar, all three MAX lines, and neighborhood circulators in Independence and KCK.
