Owner wants to renovate these apartments and renew the 20 year HUD housing contract keeping the community 100% Section 8 housing. Around $50,000 per unit (maximum HUD allows). Port KC is working to help facilitate this project.

KCPS (Kathleen Pointer) and Community Mental Health Fund (Bruce Eddy) want this kicked out of Port KC and into the EDC process. Lots of time spent at the Port KC meeting about this. KCPS rep not happy about the process and Port KC.

Kathleen has been a buzzkill this entire meeting. She's angry and acting stubborn. She's hellbent on it wanting to go to EDC for future consideration and no where else. In between all of this, she's been giving smirks and responding to PortKC officials, especially Phil Glynn, in a very rude manner.

It's just not very professional at all.

I thought we were supposed to leverage incentives for affordable projects. Almost as if their real goal is just completely banning incentives regardless of the impacts. Who could have guessed it.

I continue to disagree with Port's involvement with anything miles from the river. Agree it ought to go to EDC (though that ought to be professionally communicated, I agree.)

Does anyone know if 12th and Vine ever existed? if so, how strange, yet predictable, that KC would obliterate it.

Bob Dylan says yes.

High water risin', risin' night and day
All the gold and silver are being stolen away
Big Joe Turner lookin' East and West
From the dark room of his mind
He made it to Kansas City
Twelfth Street and Vine
Nothing standing there
High water everywhere

Don’t forget Wilbert Harrison

I'm going to Kansas City
Kansas City, here I come
I'm going to Kansas City
Kansas City, here I come
They got a crazy
Way of loving there
I'm gonna get me some
I'm gonna be
Standing on the corner
On the corner of
Twelfth Street and Vine
I'll be standing on the corner
On the corner of
Twelfth Street and Vine

I hear they got some crazy little women there and I'm going to get me one. Used that song in my 1901 century box video.

12th and Vine was more the Jazz District than 18th and Vine.

Click on the photo and zoom in and you can see the business district that used to exist there.

18th and Vine was more the center of black businesses.

100% this. Absolutely no reason for this to be at PortKC.

When are they going to renovate the Jazz Hill Apartments on the west side of The Paseo from 9th to 14th?

Did you know Kathleen Pointer (KCPS) is on the KC Tenants board???

CRAZY!! It makes so much more sense now why she's opposed to every development.

This is no conspiracy. Do you know that there are lawyers at major law firms, and lobbyists, in the Metro that work on behalf of multiple organizations and clients that essentially have the same goals? Some of these lawyers volunteer for non-profit organizations in their free time and offer advice for free.

Do you really need to add this to every development thread on here? We get it.

Lawyers and registered lobbyists are NOT the same as a public servant for KCPS.
