Kansas passed a law earlier this year that made it easier to open microbreweries. It looks like there is a wave of breweries that are planning to open in response. From Joyce at the Star:

▪ Fields & Ivy Brewery, 706 E. 23rd St., Lawrence. March 2019.

▪ Limitless Brewing, Widmer Place, 9765 Widmer Road, Lenexa. Thanksgiving Day opening.

▪ Rockcreek Brewing Co., 5880 Beverly Ave., Mission. It is closing on the building and hopes to open in 2019.

▪ Sandhills Brewing, 5612 Johnson Drive, Mission. Twin brothers, who also own a brewery in Hutchinson, Kan., plan to open the Mission brewery and taproom by the end of the year.

▪ Servaes Brewing Co., 10921 Johnson Drive, Shawnee. Spring 2019 opening.

▪ Strawberry Hill Brewing Co., 601 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan. Late fall opening.

▪ Transport Brewery, Johnson Drive, Shawnee. Late October opening.

I'm glad that a brewery is opening in downtown KCK - hopefully it will give some lift to an area that has continued to languish.

Three on Johnson Drive + another in Mission should be interesting.

yeah that's pretty aggressive, but good to see. i can't imagine they all survive given the increasingly crowded beer market, but the more the merrier. there are several breweries on the east side of the metro now too (crane, new axiom, smoke, east 40, fringe). BKS Artisan Ales also seems to be doing well although they are only open to the public for 2 days a week.

Those addresses - it seems more like two in Mission and two others on Johnson Drive out west.

Hopefully their overhead is low, there is no shortage of vacant storefronts in either downtown area.

Shawnee is all in on revamping their Nieman/Johnson Drive corridor, with the hopefully soon to be reopened Aztec Theater and the Nieman road diet and bike lanes. I had heard rumours that the OK Garage was going to be a brew pub, but maybe just a tap house.
