So Black Dirt (the Jonathan Justus concept) is moving forward at 51 Main? It seems like that has been on-again-off-again a few different times.

I was hoping Corvino's was going to be a little sooner in 2017.

Tried Tannin's the other day, it might be considered new. The menu was reworked by Justus. The new chef spent time up at the drugstore as his sous chef. Worth a try.

Had dinner at Tavernonna (inside Hotel Phillips) Saturday night. Downtown was packed and traffic jams all the way south to SW Blvd so we parked at the City Market and took the streetcar down. Restaurant was full but there wasn't a wait if you didn't have reservations. Menu was a bit short IMO but fine. I had the hanger steak with basil pesto and my partner had baked ziti with lamb sausage - both were fantastic. The server was great and excited about the menu, which will be updated seasonally. She said the chef trained in Italy and at a Four Seasons in California.

It was little pricey though - two cocktails, two glasses of wine and entrees were $91. For that, I'd expect some house bread or the option to purchase a small salad for less than $9. We'll be back to check out the Spring menu if it looks appealing, but won't be on our regular rotation.

We were also at Hotel Phillips on Saturday night, although not for the new restaurant. In addition to Tavernonna, there is a new "speakeasy" space in the former basement called PS 1931.

They did a great job decorating the spot, although it was very warm down there on Saturday night.

It is accessed by an unmarked door next to the new check in desk. It's fairly small (although a little bigger and brighter than Manifesto). They do take reservations.

Cocktails were in the $10-13 range.

They are still working some kinks out. They were out of 2 of their 10-ish listed cocktails last weekend. They also had a $14 whiskey pour in the system as $99/pour, and they didn't know what a Rob Roy was or that (regular) Sazerac Rye is not part of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. That said, they have some hard-to-find bottles if you are looking for whiskey, but you have to scope them out on your own since the in-house knowledge is very new-to-the-field and they don't have a list. I'd still recommend Manifesto over this place 100% to people who really appreciate cocktails, but it is absolutely worth checking out and will be fantastic for out-of-towners. The folks I was with who had cocktails really enjoyed them.
