Every time I walk by there with dog have wondered how it possibly could have gone this long w/out a massive development. 'Bout time (if true).

I cannot imagine what the objections to such an apartment building would be. It's not like the site sits in a residential neighborhood, or would cast a shadow over adjoining houses and yards. This is exactly the site where a building of that size should go.

But parking...

I think the neighborhood would love it, it would really clean that area up. Lots of shady activity in this area.

Agree BrewCrew, Westport needs more residential density in and around it, goes a long way to reducing bad activity.

I'll bite whether sarcasm or not. If the streetcar were expanding along Broadway the developer could probably get by with a low ratio of garage parking but w/out it they'll not only likely need to have 1:1 parking per unit but the seller may have terms to include additional public parking. Does Char Bar own the lot or the owner of the building they lease? If the lot owner is not tied to a nearby building property, such conditions might not occur.

And hopefully they'll add streetfront retail spaces.

Any confirmation about this rumor to begin with?

The owner of the parking garage behind CharBar has been talking about building a residential tower on top the the parking garage for some time. I suspect that this is what we are talking about, not the surface lot.

Would love to see Westport start expanding more up Broadway towards 39th St. Perhaps, this building will spur more development in that direction.

Still wish the apartment building for the Club XO site had come to fruition.

Have heard that too. Would be nice if both happen. Westport needs a boost of residents.

Wink noted. So wonder if they'd add another floor or two of parking levels on existing garage.

The Star reported that another 14? story residential complex being built at Madison/Roanoke and 47th. These are two completely different projects? This seems very dense for KC, not that it's a bad thing.
