The transformational $400-million CityArchRiver project is still in full swing in downtown St. Louis.

It is the largest riverfront project currently underway in the Midwest - if not the U.S..

Work currently is being done on Kiener Plaza, the new Museum of Westward Expansion and other integral parts of the Gateway Arch grounds.

All are a part of The Gateway Mall, which stretches more than one mile from the Mississippi River to Historic St. Louis Union Station.

Below are just a few photos of the vast project.

There are two stations on the bridge - one in each State.

Had a great weekend in STL after Thanksgiving and explored the still-incomplete Arch Grounds for the first time since May. The new park and freeway cap leading into underground museum entrance is going to be really nice. A very dramatically better connection to downtown STL than prior, once complete, and a nice "front yard" for the Arch.

Keiner plaza should be nice enough but it needs more active/attractive uses along its edges, or a very active uses within (a la City Garden). It is such a huge space and lacking in vibrant surrounding uses at this time. Will be nice to have a completed "hallway" pedestrian path running from the Arch to City Garden, however; I like that concept a lot. The Gateway Mall concept is finally beginning to take shape, with the awful exception of Gateway tower or whatever the Peabody building is called.

Very nice pictures. My parents met while working at Stix, Baer & Fuller in the 1920s. They moved to Kansas City in 1939 with my two older brothers, then just young children. I spent many vacations with various relatives in St. Louis and loved celebrating my birthday in the summer on the wonderful Admiral, when it actually moved up the river and back (or the reverse, not sure) in four hours. The beautiful arch, of course, was not even a thought back then. My favorite destination was the Jewel Box. Is it still there?

Thank you for the link, Flying. I will have to go back and take a look at the newly renovated "Box."
