Sources say the Marriott is embarking upon a major redo of it's dated lobby and lounge areas.
In the hope of staving off a 1,000 room convention hotel that's been on the drawing boards for years?
That's the way it appears to some.

Downtown Marriott gives lobby a $20M makeover
The $20 million makeover will bring the hotel’s traditional lobby in line with Marriott’s “International Great Room” concept.
The new lobby is designed to be a “plugged-in, multipurpose space,” including free wireless Internet service, a coffee/cocktail bar that transitions from day to night and a menu that provides dishes in five-, 10-, or 20-minute intervals to accommodate schedules.
Re: Downtown Marriott to get renovation?
Wow!! I just looked at the pictures in the article and that makeover is bland bland bland. Ugh. I hope it looks better in person. Nothing interesting or unusual. I hope the redo of the Hyatt/Sheraton lobby is a bit nicer.

Re: Downtown Marriott to get renovation?
It's a hotel lobby of a conservative chain owned by a conservative ownership group....I wouldn't be expecting shadow dancers.woodrow wrote:Wow!! Downtown Marriott Renovation and CID
The Downtown Marriott is seeking to create a CID tax to fund renovations to rooms.
I wish as part of approving this effort that the City would also require the building ownership group to put forth a plan to completely renovate the unused upper floors of the Muehlebach Hotel building. I don't care if it's additional hotel rooms (combining smaller rooms into larger suites), or converting the former hotel rooms into small apartments.
I would also like to see them doing something with the former bar space on Baltimore.
The renovation plan could be a separate effort from the Marriott tower renovation. Since the Muehlebach Hotel is historic, it's eligible for tax credits.
Having a building of that size sitting mostly empty and unused is not good for downtown in the long-term.
Public financing of renovations at big hotel is part of one-two KC convention punch

Rumor that the Downtown Marriott has sold to non-local owners.

Any plans to further renovate would be great

New ownership (“a bunch of people”) and management. All Raphael folks are out. Pistilli is retiring.

I hope something good gets done with the historic Muehlebach building. If the plan to convert it to apartments died, maybe it's time to just reopen it as a hotel instead of leaving it vacant.
Re: Downtown Marriott Renovation and CID
Aimbridge will be the operator I believe. New ownership group is out of NYC.
