For lake people.
Image

You can’t see the forest for the grass.
Image

Here is another one of those pictures where I selected and did a lens blur on the too-busy background. Twice.
Image

Another lake shot.
Image

This wildflower is Dalmatian Toadflax. I cheated with a few copy-and-paste actions. Well, flowers don’t grow in those vases, either!
Image

One interesting feature of this lake picture is the super-tall rock wall in the middle.
Image

Almost like a teething ring.
Image

“This is my road!"
Image

“You want to read the sign? You can wait."
Image

“Where should we go for lunch?"
Image

Bison and prairie dogs.
Image

“The flowers are a nice touch, Mabel."

How fortuitous. The American Bison has just been officially designated as the national mammal of the United States. All the pictures this week feature this animal.

Here we have two mamas with their babies.
Image

The image blends into itself.
Image

Resting is always a good idea.
Image

“Am I on the right path?"
Image

Many bison and a few prairie dogs.
Image

Wonderful animals, nice trees and pretty flowers. What more can one ask?
Image

All is calm except for one dust bunny.
Image

I think this one is listening to music.
Image

We’ve already seen buffalo, but aren’t those trees nice?
Image

Notice all the babies here.
Image

This one just fell off of a penny.
Image

Cars? What cars?

Time to say goodbye to the bison.
Image

Last picture of the day.
Image

It is a new day (8/22/14). We’ll start off with a few flowers.
Image

Now this is a really big drugstore.
Image

It must be a famous place.
Image

They even have a church space. A rather narrow space.
Image

Lots of things to see.
Image

The church space has a name.
Image

We found a few books.
Image

The totem is wondering why his picture is being taken.
Image

So you can find drugs in this backyard?
Image

Now there’s a rabbit for you.

We’re still wandering around the big Wall Drug Store.
Image

Really nice flower.
Image

I wonder if he hibernates in a log.
Image

These are even prettier.
Image

My husband has a new girlfriend.
Image

What a cutie! I asked his parents if I could take his picture.
Image

My son is checking grandma’s hand.
Image

If I didn’t take pictures of signs like this, I’d never know where we were. I wonder what those hair-like things on top of the sign are.
Image

Can’t do nothin’ around here.
Image

Where do you think this path might go?
Image

If you look closely, you can see mountain goats. Or whatever they are called.
Image

I see one. Maybe two or three.
Image

But if you count them, you will fall asleep.

We’re still walking around in this area of the Badlands. After a while, we noticed being bothered by something unpleasant.
It turned out to be the tiniest gnats ever. You couldn’t see them, but you could certainly feel them.

Maybe these mountain goats/sheep/whatever use bug spray.
Image

They know how to rest.
Image

This must be their “house."
Image

If I find anything that resembles a flower...
Image

You can do a “Where’s Waldo” with the sheep here.
Image

Closer view of the scene above.
Image

The bighorns be everywhere.
Image

His home is the proverbial hole in the wall.
Image

I can think of better places to nurse a baby.
Image

Their home is decorated nicely.
Image

I wonder what Dad does for a living.
Image

The neighborhood is nice.

Found more flowers.
Image

Doesn’t this look like a giant zipper, holding the two sides of the mountains together?
Image

Another difficult golf course.
Image

Interesting how a particular, “thin” layer will stretch horizontally across all the hills/mountains it encounters.
Image

Pretty flowers.
Image

This one started out as a landscape, unlike the one above.
Image

Same flowers, with a visitor.
Image

I shot this one from a moving vehicle. Kind of surprising to see a person on a hill.
Image

I wonder what caused the bathtub ring.
Image

The juice from this one probably wasn’t worth the squeeze.
Image

There’s a certain beauty in parched ground.
Image

Even the road is kind of attractive.

Badland colors can be bad all by themselves.
Image

The road seems tiny in comparison.
Image

A little grass to offset those unrelenting, horizontal lines.
Image

“I’m here, too!” Can’t overlook the little sunflowers.
Image

Almost as if from an airplane.
Image

They do go on.
Image

Is that salt? White sand?
Image

Another opportunist.
Image

If you like fences, this one is for you.
Image

Where to begin...
Image

Such struggles must be documented.
Image

Shot from a moving vehicle.
