OK dan, wow me :) The young lady and I have been to STL so many times but we've got a 3 day weekend and free hotel rooms so we're shipping off east tomorrow just to get away.

We've done all the typical stuff, we need some new areas to check out...restaurants, shops, neighborhoods, attractions...something, anything....

on the restaurants we're trying to do the low-carb thing, well she is more than me (although I need it more)...anyways, steer me away from Italian...

thanks dog.

What? No toasted ravioli? Sacrilege!

Morgan Street Brewery, down at the Landing, is fun. Try the Cobblestone Steamer. A walk in the West End, around where the cathedral is, is always enjoyable. The Coffee Cartel is always a nice time. Cicero's, in U City is a great place for dinner.

But honestly, you really can't expect to enjoy yourself without carbohydrates.

i must say, there's nothing like being put on the spot, kc.

the first thing i'll say is this....if you're going low carb on the eats....I CANNOT HELP YOU as i make it a point of hitting the following locales, some of them multiple times:

*white castle - snack, lunch, dinner, late night snack, breakfast if in the mood
*greek place on olive road - superb filet mignon stuffed with cheese and portabellas
*pizzaria uno - yea...it's a chain, but it's soooo good
*the hill....take your pick of italian restaurants
*ted drewe's.....i think it's closed for the winter...but you could always call first

(i'm workin' on getting you the name of that greek restaurant....i really do suggest you go there for dinner)

activities (many have been discussed here the last 12-24 months)
*central west end....nightlife, blues music, beer, beer and beer
*anhueser busch tour.....a MUST if you haven't already done it
*city museum.....more for the kids, a little pricey for what you get, but, still kinda cool
*busch stadium tour - the sucker is being surgically disassembled and will be history by 2006...take the tour now
*walk the campus of Wash U.....it's a really cool place
*tour downtown Clayton and have lunch at a store front eatery (take in some ice skating at the outdoor Shaw's Park rink on the west side of downtown)
*tour the Botanical Gardens and the rest of Forest Park (ice skate at Steinberg Rink - outdoor, a christmas tradition in our family)
*find out what's playing at the Fox Theater on Grand
*attend the symphony at Powell Hall
*hang out on the Landing
*tour the Old Cathedral downtown
*check out Union Station - report back here as to what shape the old bird is in

that's all for now...

I know, low carbs bad traveling.....I WILL hit the White Castle....I'm glad it's gone from KC because I'd go there to much, so going east makes it a special treat.

Spiro's is indeed good.

I maybe could get you a tour guide if you are interested. I still know a few good guys over there.

Are you taking kids or is it just adults?

Here is a good place to ask for ideas of where to go.

And another.

Where's your hotel?

Are you staying at the Drury?

Be sure to ask for one of the new rooms.

Be sure to walk up Washington Ave and enjoy the rehabbing that has been going on there.

Look UP as you walk.

Don't waste your time in St. Louis Centre. You can also walk down to LaClede's Landing. Lots of goings on there too.

Check out the Entertainment section of the STL PD

Up Washington Ave is a STL store that has a book or pamplet about some walking things in DT STL- "Walking Historic Downtown ST Louis" by Charles Brennan and Ben Cannon. It gives some of the history of some of the old buildings and things to look for as you walk.

It is supposed to be nice tomorrow.

Don't forget the Arch Grounds. Even in the winter they are beautiful.

If you see the Merchant's LaClede Building, let me know if you see one of it's major attractions.

Forest Park has been renovated as well and is still in progress. Lots to see there.

Good luck and have fun!!!!

nota....staying at one of the Renessaince (sp?)...can't remember if it's the grand or the suites....

Looks like rain all day tomorrow in STL so hopefully some walking around on Sunday.

We've done the arch/LaClede's/etc. hundreds of times....(ok tens), I'm looking for some of the underbelly....kind of like here all tourists know Plaza, westport, casinos, blah, blah, blah, but few go to City market, downtown, or see places like Hyde park.

yeah we went to BB's Soups (north side of Soulard kind of) and drove around...us 2 together aren't into listening to live music so much...that seems like more of a group thing.....

Ahh, I've gotten plenty of solutions, we can't help but have fun anyways.

I was at Ted Drews over Christmas- it was open then! I really don't see anything special about it, though, or Gus's prezels- I think people like it because it is a STL tradition.

I was at the city museum in July- I thought it was pretty good- there was an exhibit on racism in St. Louis that was very good, along with a history of the area.

Soulard, south of downtown to the brewery is cool too.

Imo's is frigging wonderful. Minsky's is the skank-dispenser.

I didn't type any of this, below. I spell "their" right. Who did this?

LOL...."skank dispenser".....LOL

In my opinion....dirty, low budget dumps like CiCi's and Pizza Street are more deserving of such a description.

There salad's and salad dressings are ok, though, I guess.

The provel-veeta is the GOOD part. Since when does something have to be REAL to be good?

Cases in point......Nacho cheese flavored Doritos, Boo Berry cereal and Rotel and finally....Imo's provel-veeta cheese.
