Lee's Summit signups start in March (per Google Blog).

I'm in Overland Park and can't wait until we get it!

Fairway and PV also to get ATT Gigapower.

Also say SureWest/CCI has 20% of 100K homes passed, so about 20K customers in area.

So it looks like TimeWarner may have lost about 40K KC customers so far.

In past, several articles say TWC had about 300K customers in KC market before GF arrived...

http://news.cnet.com/Time-Warner,-Comca ... 12405.html

The Star recently reports TWC has only 260K and the Google Fiber rollout has hardly completed...
http://www.kansascity.com/news/business ... 54294.html

Another article says TWC passes 600K homes in KC area, so if data is correct they are capturing about 43% of homes passed (down from 50%) and shrinking as GF rollout increases.

And don't forget these numbers only include the people who signed up during the "first pass" of availability. I moved to my neighborhood after the open enrollment period had already closed...so even though I would change if I could...I can't currently.

Original rumor last year claimed it would start as a pilot with Google Fiber users only at first. It also may use both Sprint/Tmobile networks, auto switching to whichever best in area. Word is Sprint already signed a deal with Google.

TV+Gbit is increasing $10 to $130 on March 10 but I think only for new customers, not for those already signed up. Google said the highest cost for GF is TV agreements, not the fiber rollout or Gbit service.

Lee's Summit signups start this month, so I'm guessing they're going to start right after the 10th.

Another article says TWC passes 600K homes in KC area, so if data is correct they are capturing about 43% of homes passed (down from 50%) and shrinking as GF rollout increases.
And I wonder how many of them are dropping cable altogether and getting TV via the various internet options. Read an article lately about the decreased number of homes subscribing to ESPN and its sister networks.

There are Cable users dropping traditional TV service for streaming but that means they still have cable for Internet only. TWC is losing some traditional video customers but generally gaining overall data customers - except in KC, likely due to Google Fiber.

Thanks for the info. Forgot that internet now comes over cable. I started with internet via phone line and still think at times of internet via phone and cable only for TV.

And for cord cutters like me who want to watch ESPN, we now have Sling TV, and it is glorious.

the docsis standard was introduced in 1997.

so cable Internet largely begins in the era of Windows 95.

To be fair it took quite a while to propogate. Our office, let alone our house, was still on dial up in 97.
