I dunno. It's pretty hard to go 0-13.

Ho Hum MIZZOU wins another SEC East Title.

Does beating Bama get them in the Final Four?
Too early to tell. Lots of 1 loss teams with remaining games. The home losses to Indiana (bad loss) and Georgia (blowout) will be difficult to overcome. No really big wins either but Alabama would provide that.

ESPN's playoff guru type person seems to think that an MU win would only knock Alabama out, not also put MU in.

The big problem for Mizzou is that both teams in several of the conference championship are presently ranked higher than Mizzou so even if the higher rated team loses (ie tOSU, Oregon and FSU), the lower rated winner is still likely to get in before Mizzou (except for maybe G Tech). TCU just needs to beat Iowa State. The SEC east also laid an egg on Saturday which didn't help Mizzou's cause.

538.com put MU's chances at the playoff at 0.

So still no love for Mizzou. Four team playoff makes things better but it's still a messed up systems if it's based off rankings. SEC West is a great example. Everyone buys into the preseason hype so SEC west winds up with 6 of 7 teams ranked. Then it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. When all the teams in your conference are ranked all your losses are against ranked teams, so you don't drop. And all your wins are against ranked teams, so you ascend even higher.

Not saying Mizzou should be in the playoffs if they beat Bama, but an eight team playoff would let all five conference champs in and sill leave 3 open slots for undefeated teams or highly ranked second place teams. This Mizzou team developed much faster than anyone expected and are much better then they where when they played Indiana (who lost there stud QB after that game). The Georgia blowout is the worst indictment against them. But that's a loss to a ranked team. Mizzou should be in the top ten.

Can't complain too much about the SEC this year. They aren't going to have more than 1 team in the 4 team playoff and it looks likely that 4 different conferences will be represented.

Depending on what happens this weekend, I would not be surprised if the Big 12 got 2 teams in the playoff.

I still would like to see 8 teams instead of 4.

IIRC, most college football media types thought that the 4 team playoff was just a step toward an 8/12/16 team field.

They should have started with 8. As it stands now, at least 1, and possibly 2, conference champions will be out.

And how exactly is the Big 12 champion determined?

If Baylor and TCU win this weekend, they are co-champions but TCU is ranked higher despite losing to Baylor.

If TCU and K-State win this weekend, they are co-champions and TCU has the tie-breaker. But K-State would still get a championship trophy.

And according to ESPN, the Big 12 will only acknowledge Baylor's head-to-head win over TCU if both Baylor & TCU are left out of the playoff. That really sucks for Baylor since (if they win this weekend), their only crime is being in a conference that screws over its members. Of course, they could lose this weekend and it would be a moot point.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Big 12 got 2 teams in the playoff and I wouldn't be surprised if the Big 12 is unable to fill all of its bowl slots. What a mess. But hey, the Big 12's motto is "One True Champion."

As far as the SEC goes, things are a mess for the playoffs. The SEC could be left out completely or the SEC could get up 2 teams in (though I don't know which SEC team would be worth a 2nd spot). Worst case for the SEC is being left completely but still having 12 bowl-eligible teams. Weird stuff.

For a conference that saw a lot of national title contenders wiped out in the conference championship game, the possibility of TWO teams in the playoff is exciting! :D
