How likely is it that the GOP tries to eliminate the grant?DaveKCMO wrote:we got the word out on question 1.JBmidtown wrote:The GO bonds passed. What's the word on Prospect MAX?
the next step is ensuring the federal grant is delivered. the project was named in obama's last budget, but has yet to receive it's funding agreement (requires a congressional appropriation).

Re: Prospect MAX
i won't say "unlikely", but with it already having made it through the process and with Q1 passing the local funding is secured it's got a good change of being rescued from drumpf.JBmidtown wrote:How likely is it that the GOP tries to eliminate the grant?DaveKCMO wrote:we got the word out on question 1.JBmidtown wrote:The GO bonds passed. Re: Prospect MAX
congressional appropriators released their FY17 budget omnibuses this morning, fully funding the transit capital investment grant program, which means prospect max will be fully funded if both houses approve and the president signs.
to recap, funding is from three sources:
- kcata via local sales tax revenue
- kcmo via GO bond revenue
- feds via a "small starts" grant

Re: Prospect MAX
Would be nice to see ticket vending machines at most active bus stops whether MAX branded or not - where it takes time for many to board bus. Is it the smart kiosk that provides ticket vending, emergency call button and security cameras? If not makes sense to be an all-in-one box and plant these at major bus stops.
Or is the smart kiosk the same as City Post along streetcar line? Either way, a combo kiosk could be something to consider for KC Kiosk 2.0 if not already there. The ticket vending part could be designed as an optional module for the kiosk where needed.
edit: And does the vending machine take bills/coins? Will be curious to see how secure they are from breaking open. The 'smart city' thing to do would be to allow phone payments and CC/debit card only, though there are those who only have cash/coin.

Seriously what's going on with this (and other MAX line studies)? I know MAX lines are not very popular on this board but I think they serve a great purpose providing quick commuter/express service with unique branding. It helps cover routes that likely won't see streetcar anytime soon with a cheap express bus alternative.

First construction package is out to bid. You can see a prototype of the new stations with integrated smart kiosks at the 3-Trails Transit Center (Blue Ridge & Bannister).

Re: Prospect MAX
That’s the best news I’ve heard in a while. I know it was kind of expected, and I have pretty low expectation of BRT as implemented in KC for any kind of transformative or even really noticeable economic improvement, but I’m really excited. It’s certainly a meaningful transit upgrade for the corridor, and makes for a pretty thorough core coverage grid of good, efficient, regular, frequent, intuitive express service.

Is there any interest to retroactively upgrade the Troost line with these updated amenities?DaveKCMO wrote:You'll be impressed. Prospect represents a major upgrade to the MAX brand.

Yes. There will even be a limited refresh of Main MAX while we wait for streetcar.JBmidtown wrote:Is there any interest to retroactively upgrade the Troost line with these updated amenities?DaveKCMO wrote:You'll be impressed. Prospect represents a major upgrade to the MAX brand.

Re: Prospect MAX
What happens to MAX on Main after the streetcar? Move to Broadway or something?
