The Xroads First Friday Thread...
I couldnt find a similar First Friday thread. How long do most galleries stay open? I havent been in...good lawd half a decade (or longer), but will be this friday. Also, is it a lot busier than it used to be? I remember it being pretty busy back then, though. I fully expect to see a lot more J. Crew than back in 2005-6...

I can't comment on how late places stay open, but it's still busy, especially if the weather is nice. You'll notice it's more crowded earlier in the evening and there is a HUGE difference in the type of crowd between East Crossroads and West Crossroads (more of your J Crew crowd).
Food Truck parking lot is a nice touch.

Your "typical" gallery begins winding down around 9. It varies greatly though and usually just depends on the crowd they have going. generally if they stay open later they will state as such and have some kind of music or event going on.warwickland wrote:I couldnt find a similar First Friday thread. I suppose it's a matter of opinion.aknowledgeableperson wrote:When one considers the alternative getting old is just fine.It sucks getting old.
When you are dead, you cannot laugh at yourself nor cringe for wearing J. Crew.
But you can wear J. Crew.

I was there in August.
first fridays is another great KC thing that's effectively parking limited. for many people parking on one side and walking to the other isn't doable. the streetcar is going to be hugely beneficial here as it will send people to explore from Main and go outwards and back.

MAX is doable too (I take it to FF) but basically only those who already live along it mostly use it. More people would likely park&ride a streetcar.
Would still recommend parking either River Market or Home Depot lot (Linwood/Main) and take MAX Orange Line to FF and other major downtown events - makes FF a little more adventurous.
I put this together this MAX Orange line map a while back...

Love that map! Great job.
We take the Max from the River Market to Crossroads for first fridays most times. Sometimes use the Max to get to downtown as well. Can't wait for the streetcar as the line it takes will be even more convenient.

Hey, so is this place to plug First Friday shows you’re excited to see? I’m interested in knowing what galleries people here are planning to hit up.
I know I’ll be going to see M. A. Alford again tonight. He’s done a couple shows over the past few years on First Fridays and they've all been excellent. This one is upstairs from the Leedy at the Beggar’s Table Gallery.
What else?

Those "photos of girls underwater" photos remind me why I don't really think photography can be art.Volker Dad wrote:Hey, so is this place to plug First Friday shows you’re excited to see? I’m interested in knowing what galleries people here are planning to hit up.

you've obviously never seen real photography then. because I can produce, in camera, images to rival paintings in their artisticnesschingon wrote:
