Rockhill Greens senior housing project moves forward
Rockhill Greens, a development project to build senior housing on Research Medical Center's Brookside Campus on Troost from 65th to 68th streets, is moving forward with demolition of five former hospital office buildings along the Troost edge of the campus. The Research Medical Center's auxilliary campus was formerly Baptist Lutheran Medical Center. 13-acre plot of land connected to the campus will be redeveloped with apartments for independent seniors, assisted living units, and memory-assistance units. Construction should begin in June.
A second phase will develop office and retail uses on the southern part of the campus between Troost and Holmes. The developer hopes to find a new use and tenant for the former hospital building on the west side of the campus.

The entirety of the plan for the Rockhill Greens site is a little unclear to me, but there is also a non-senior apartment development planned for the north end of this site. It is being developed by Sunflower and designed by Clockwork.

The firm plans to develop the 163-unit Rockhill Greens Apartments on roughly 7 acres that it has a contract to acquire from an affiliate of Wichita-based Petroleum Inc. Located on the southeast corner of 65th Street and Rockhill Road, the site includes surface parking that was part of the former Baptist Medical Center campus.
Jason Swords, a principal with Sunflower Development, said work on the $28 million apartment development is expected to begin before the end of the year. Its three buildings, which will vary in height from three to five stories, will include a couple of studios, 119 one-bedroom units and 42 two-bedroom units.
"We are targeting $1.50 per square foot as the average rent," Swords said.
Plans call for a wealth of outdoor amenities, including a pool; spa tub; multiple cabanas with gas grills; a large multi-function grass area for volleyball, soccer, movies and other activities; fire pits; and a game pit for bocce ball and yard games.
Interior amenities will include a fitness facility, yoga/spin room, sports simulator, community room with full kitchen, coffee bar, movie theater, bike wash/repair station and a pet wash area.
I don't believe any work started for this portion of the project and they did just submit revised plans to the city to increase the size of the development:
Amend the UR Plan to add an additional floor to buildings 1 and 2, plus make building 3 have five full floors instead of a step up to five floors. Increase the number of units to 210 with a total of 216 parking spaces. Adding a parking deck under building 3. Reduced height and construction type of the retaining wall along the east boundary.
I'm not sure if the footprint has shrunk, but the plan with the city says 5.359 acres, instead of the "roughly 7" as described in the BizJournal.
I believe there is still some land in the Rockhill Greens that is up for sale. This website marketing the land says 11 acres are available, but they are still including the site of the Sunflower development:

I did recently notice some new activity/site prep had started at this location. I guess they broke ground on Brookside Commons?

Sunflower, Platform Ventures will open last phase of $43M Brookside apartment complex

The $43 million Brookside Commons complex, a joint effort between Sunflower Development Group and Platform Ventures LLC, is scheduled to open its third and final residential building on July 1. The 101-apartment building will bring the property to 212 total studio, one- and two-bedroom units.
Sunflower and Platform Ventures in August 2022 delivered the two previous buildings, with 60 and 51 units, on a site southeast of 65th Street and Rockhill Road that previously housed parking for the former Baptist Medical Center campus. The team broke ground on Brookside Commons in August 2020.

About a block away from this project is the old “New Landing Mall”. Sunflower Development was involved with a redevelopment plan of the mall, but that seems to have fallen through around the start of the pandemic. I wonder if they will begin pursuing redevelopment again for the old mall site once this project has wrapped up, given the proximity.
