Generic ongoing KCATA thread
Didn't see a thread to just post random KCATA comments...if there is one someone please point it out.
Anyways....anybody notice the new bright white message boards on the front of some of the buses? I saw two today and they look good....very sharp displays and stand out unlike the yellow ones.
Nice little improvement.

Yeah, I did notice that.
In other news, they cranked up the heat a bit early on the Northbound MAX today. It was a sauna.
And there was one really crazy dude speaking loudly to no one. Nothing new there.

sat next to SUPER DRUNK ASS GUY, looked like dude from the goonies, the locked up giant guy,
called the bus driver woman,"babygirl" several times, and peed on himself

Whoa, never encountered a pee-er yet. Though I have in Chicago. I've noticed too that the MAX can be quite packed in the middle of the day. Good for everyone I suppose! Unless someone is peeing on themselves...redperro wrote: riding on the kcata can be ok at times, i prefer biking, but i dont have to worry about over using the car...

The stuff you see on transit in big cities likely makes the worst of the worst in KC seem remarkably tame.smh wrote: Whoa, never encountered a pee-er yet. Though I have in Chicago. Re: Generic ongoing KCATA thread
in case anyone missed it, KCATA completely shut down between 8pm tuesday and 8am wednesday. according to one driver, he'd never witnessed such an event in his 16 years working there.

Re: Generic ongoing KCATA thread
Why does the ATA not shovel out the MAX stops? The snow pack at the stops has really hindered getting on and off of busses. I know it would be a big job to dig out every stop in the whole system, but surely the MAX lines--being the flagship routes of system--could have a just a little snow clearing done.

They usually do clear at least a walkway. Email or twitter them in you see and they should address it quickly.

Re: Generic ongoing KCATA thread
@SMH, please send me an email at metro@kcata.org. Last week, I talked with the Facilities department, and they were trying to get all the MAX (Main and Troost) stops cleared on Friday. They were moving on to other heavily traveled routes over the weekend, such as Prospect, Independence, etc.
We are battling thaw and freeze cycles. Also, we sometimes get a stop cleared, bus snow removal from the street or nearby property gets thrown back on the stop.

if you're a regular metro rider, you also should be following them on facebook or twitter. i've noticed they've been very responsive when people complain there.

I was about to tweet them when I noticed they tweeted that they were clearing out MAX stops over the weekend. So, there we go. This morning I was running behind and like most good Kansas Citians I have a car and free parking at work. Thus, the automobile won today and I'll have to check out the MAX stop conditions tomorrow.

Re: Generic ongoing KCATA thread
transit action network has posted a report on its blog regarding the january 26 meeting of the kcata board of commissioners. it includes some info on the downtown streetcar study. [subsequent update: rfp has just gone out, with consultant expected to be selected and contract approved by kcata and marc board by end of march. study to take 9-12 months.]
the report also has a link to a 20-slide report on the comprehensive service analysis that kcata is having done to help them improve route structure and service.

here's a snow update on the 10th and main transit center. only the main street side is troublesome. my hunch is that kcata cleared the main street boarding locations and then a city plow came along and un-cleared it.

Re: Generic ongoing KCATA thread
Last night around 10:30pm as I was waiting at a light near Main @ 11th (Petticoat Lane) I saw the 57 bus slide sideways and knock over a streetlight which then promptly landed on a gentleman’s leg. It was surreal. Then the felled individual attempted to stand up but it was clear that his leg was not up to a supporting role. It was crazy. I did not stop to help but there was already a small group of gathering to assist.
Seriously though, the bus knocked the lamppost clean off. Like a reaper to wheat (I assume).
Snowpocalypse!
