A few changes in the Brookside shops:

Meiners is selling its Brookside store to Cosentino's Price Chopper (Star article at http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascit ... 304293.htm).
Betty Meiners, president of the firm, said Wednesday she was in final negotiations to sell the Sun Fresh store at 14 W. 62nd Terrace in the Brookside area to the Cosentinos family, which also owns a Price Chopper store a few blocks away, as well as several other Kansas City area grocery stores.
(They're also selling the Prospect store to a different group.)

The old Crick's Camera Store space is going to be a UPS store, according to a sign in the window.

And the Country Club shoe store has moved (I think the address on the sign was in JoCo), and the space is empty.

The new owners are in KC, so it will once again be locally owned.

When did this happen? I never read about it in the paper. Anyone know who bought it?

how could someone w/ the handle "Brooksider" not know about this? or was it too many beers @ the Brooksider that allowed you to miss this very important news about our 'hood? it was in the papers while the transaction was in play (no, not PITCH).

As recently as November 20 the Star reports Highwoods as the owners still.

The sale was just announced back in October, so it will probably still be a few months until the transaction is completed and the new party assumes ownership. Even after these sales are announced they aren't completed over night.

Amen to the selling by Highwood, that company has ruined the Plaza, but Brookside still remains very much more local, at least in feel.

There's an article in this week's Biz Journal about the sale, which will happen in January.
