Shall the County of Jackson continue its countywide anti-drug sales tax (COMBAT) at
the rate of one-quarter of one percent for a period of seven years for the purpose of the
arrest, prosecution, incarceration, treatment and prevention (including D.A.R.E.
programs) of drug related offenses and violent crimes, and the judicial processing of
adult and juvenile violators of such offenses? The proceeds of this tax shall be
deposited in a special Jackson County Anti-Drug Sales Tax Trust Fund, separate from
the general fund or any other county funds.

What if you plan to vote AND are currently on drugs? This would explain many vote results.
Re: Renew COMBAT 1/4-cent sales tax?
i will be voting not to renew.
Re: Renew COMBAT 1/4-cent sales tax?
Doubt I'll vote for it. I'm sure we need to dedicate funds to a lot of what is happening, but this seems to be continuing an old program that should be rethought.
Seems like a lot of signs I see for this are not in people's yards, but simply placed along busy streets.

If it doesn't have street-level retail, it's an abortion.

I only feel strongly about treatment among the mixture of elements this funds. Treatment ultimately deals with the supply chain.
There are many issues with the "war on drugs" that carry right over to this. Not sure how I'll vote, but I think our priorities here and on a national level are all wrong.

If the ratio of prevention/treatment spending v. law enforcement spending were reversed than it might have a chance at my vote but I will not vote for further spending on pointless prohibition.

i'm proud of the poll results so far. i imagine this thing will pass though.

I might point out the time stamp on your post.chrizow wrote: i'm proud of the poll results so far. i imagine this thing will pass though.

Anyone who votes for renewal should go immediately to jail.

Re: Renew COMBAT 1/4-cent sales tax?
they're asking for renewal pretty early. hopefully it will fail and they'll perhaps adjust the emphasis to prevention. one can dream...chrizow wrote: i'm proud of the poll results so far. i imagine this thing will pass though.

Is there anything else on the ballot? If not, why are they wasting money on an election now?

Because they know that the only people that show up for off cycle elections are crotchety old people who don't work and are likely to support this sort of thing.lock+load wrote: Is there anything else on the ballot? If not, why are they wasting money on an election now?

Re: Renew COMBAT 1/4-cent sales tax?
They put it on the ballot well in advance of the tax's expiration, so that if it fails in November they have a couple more opportunities to try again.lock+load wrote: Is there anything else on the ballot? If not, why are they wasting money on an election now?
I'm inclined to vote against it given its current division of money. I also think the majority should be spent on prevention and treatment rather than "enforcement". I also think it seems to have created a semi-permanent fleet of consultants and contractors who have come to feel entitled to a spigot of money.

No fucking way am I voting for something that uses my money to fund midnight paramilitary raids of private homes. Ever.

Every tax creates a semi-permanent fleet of consultants and contractors who can only live on the tit of goverment.dangerboy wrote: . . . it seems to have created a semi-permanent fleet of consultants and contractors who have come to feel entitled to a spigot of money.

Well, that ought to kill it &&&KCMax wrote: Funkhouser to endorse COMBAT
It's apparently an unpopular position here, but I'm voting for it.
Re: Renew COMBAT 1/4-cent sales tax?
Voting against it.
The COMBAT funded (partially) CDC here in Northeast is history, leaving no agency for delivery of services. Currently neighborhood groups, the chamber and some "steering committee" are trying to get organized enough to make a viable play for the $$$.
Too much mis-management inside the organization as well. The mural project in PH was a bust, we have a literal war zone down near 8th & Bales/Indiana that PD wants to turn a blind eye too and county Legislator Scott Burnett still won't return any of my emails regarding the unpaid advertising balance COMBAT currently has with our paper since ONE Inc's closing.
Then there's that whole KKFI tape on another thread that's troubling on a variety of levels.
Nope - hope this one is headed to the shitter.

...and that's all i'm sayin about that
