Northmoor Castle
Does anybody know the story behind this odd structure, who built it, when and why? And why is there a space shuttle parked out in front of it?

Re: Northmoor Castle
Built by Harlan Shaver Sr. at the age of 70 in 1980. His son is the current Mayor of Northmoor.
He was quite the character, and anyone that knew him loved him......

I'm through Northmoor relatively often (traveling the speed limit I might add) and haven't seen this!

I work in the 8 story Briarcliff office building and routinely drive on 69 through Northmoor and Riverside and I can't say I've ever seen this. Do tell more!!!

Don't quote me, but I think it is off Waukomis and Wakanda Ave/50th Terrace. (may be on 50th Street)

I'm shocked it hasn't been painted to resemble a Schlitz can. We can only hope someone in Randolph is erecting an improved version.

Now that the trees are barren, it can be seen on the south side of I-29 between Gateway(Riverside exit) and Line Creek. If you go west on Vivion turn north at the street right past the Northmoor city limit sign where the storage facility is.

the 2003 tornado went one block south of there.. You can notice some still twisted trees and some vacant lots on that hill! Close one!
I just happened to discover this castle while gawking at the damage !

Re: Northmoor Castle
The Star did a full half page story on this back in August or so of 2008, and it gave a nice history and answered all my questions about the old building. Unfortunately I have forgotten just about everything, but if you have access to their old articles I would imagine you could find it with some searching.
