So many nice cities in Europe.  All the Scandinavian capitols are up there on my list too, particularly Copenhagen.

i am the opposite of well-traveled, but here are my favorite US cities that i've been to, in no order.  (i've never been outside the US).

1.  austin
2.  chicago
3.  nyc
4.  minneapolis
5.  st. louis.

US: Chicago, San Francisco, San Diego, New York, DC.

Foreign: London, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Vancouver, Dublin

Well, I am a bit of a germanophile and WWII/cold war history buff so that certainly peaks my interest.  I think it's a very ecclectic place.  I just enjoy seeing how the city evolved post-war and I'm fascinated at the differences between the post-war western part of the city, communist East Berlin (which is fading into obscurity) and the contemporary city that has been built up linearally along the former wall corridor and, of course, Potsdamer Platz.  Old west berlin has great entertainment/shopping around the K'Damm, a cultural district south of the Tiergarten and Charlottenburg with the Egyptian museums.  The Tiergarten itself can be a pleasant but sometimes bizarre experience...I walked into a clearing with hundreds of nude but amorous sun bathers one summer afternoon but, alas, they were all men.  

In the east, Museum Island has some truly world class museums, particularly the Pergamon and Unter den Linden has infilled with great restaurants and museums/galleries.  Fredrichstrasse is fantastic for department stores and shoppingand of course it feeds to the south into Potsdamer Platz.  Potsdamer Platz is interesting but still a bit disappointing in that it still sits by itself...nonetheless, I really enjoy the Sony Center, it's a great public forum.    

 There is also talk of rebuilding the Berlin palace which was destroyed in the war and even opening up the Hitler Bunker to the public.  The latter is something I would love to see especially after seeing the movie "Downfall".

Obviously, you won't find Paris-type architecture but the place really keeps my interest because it is so different from everywhere else.  I put a picture thread out on it about a year or so ago.

also, berlin's haute restaurant scene has received a ton of press in the last couple of years - it is now a culinary mecca.  its contemporary art scene is probably the most vibrant in continental europe along with paris.  the music scene is great as well.  it's a very hip place (not that i've been there, but i read things...)

I've been there 4 times.  The last was a couple of years ago.  Great restaurants with a huge ethnic variety.  It's a very cosmopolitan place.  Much of the scene that would appeal to people here, I could not really participate in because I had an 11 and 13 year old in tow but you could certainly pick up on the vibe.  What I liked was that there are several districts in the city that offered a variety of choices.
