Chains not opening first stores in JoCo?

Post by KCPowercat »

Not to start this war up but anybody find it odd that Ultimate Electronics didn't open at least one of their new stores in JoCo? With that hotbed demographics it's just assumed that that county would get one of the stores.

I found it odd.

Same thing with World Market - first in Westport, second in Independence. And Costco - first in Midtown. Didn't Zios and Garden Ridge also go to Independence first?

It just shows that Joco is not the center of the retail universe like it was in the 1990s. Of course it's still a crucial sub-market, but it is now more balanced with the northern and eastern sides of the metro.

This argument could go on forever...a lot of it has to do with securing a suitable location first.

There is an Ultimate Electronics being built at 95th and Quivira right next to Best Buy. There will also be another one built in So Jo Co.

With Brandsmart, Best Buy, Circuit City, and Sears, and now with NFM, which has a huge electronics section, I don't see the need for an electronics chain to pop up all over. I hope Brandsmart crushes them.

i think the ONLY garden ridge in the whole metro is independence. i think they need an EXPO design center though too. the pottery barn and restoration hardware in town center should pack up and move to eastland as well.

The Joco Ultimate store will also be housing their distribution operations, so it might just be taking longer to construct the bigger facility.

WHO GIVES A SHEIST?

We who have so much
to you who have so little
to you won don't have anything at all
We who have so much
more than any one man does need
and you who don't have anything at all
Does anybody need another million dollar movie
Does anybody need another million dollar star
Does anybody need to be told over and over
Spitting in the wind comes back at you twice as hard
Strawman, going straight to the devil
Strawman, going straight to hell
Does anyone really need a billion dollar rocket
Does anyone need a $60,000 car
Does anyone need another President
or the sins of Swaggart parts 6, 7, 8 and 9
Does anyone need another politician
caught with his pants down
money sticking in his hole
Does anyone need another racist preacher
Spittin' in the wind can only do you harm
Does anyone need another faulty shuttle
blasting off to the Moon, Venus or Mars
Does anyone need another self-righteous rock and roll singer
whose nose he says has led him straight to God
Does anyone need yet another blank skyscraper
If you're like me I'm sure a minor miracle would do
A flaming sword or maybe a gold ark floating up the Hudson
When you spit in the wind it comes right back at you
"ALWAYS be closing"

Some chains like 54th Street Grill & Bar or El Maguey are even able run profitable businesses without ANY Joco locations. :o

Ultimate Electronics-don't waste your time.

I got a bunch of stuff in the mail about the new store on Barry.

I was in the market for a new PALM. Decided to try them.

It is one of those slicky boy/commission sales/high pressure places. Only one person in the store who knew about PALMs at the time I went. About 3 on Monday. She had 3 customers ahead of me. The place was crawling with employees (sales people) carrying notebooks, but not one could help me. I waited for awhile and then went up to Best Buy and bought what I wanted with great help from a nice young man who answered all my questions.

The whole place is "much ado about nothing" IMHO.

But competition has been good for my Best Buy - for ages, they have really been working at customer service.

just went there over lunch...nota is right....guys in suits trying to make deals...they do have a good quality selection but after being offered my 3rd bottle of water while I look around, it's not a place to browse.

It's like a bigger Brandsmart....they have 4 people working on getting you credit and only 1 cashier if that tells you what kind of store it is.
