Do you mean Dave Helling?

Some people stay around when they find their comfort level, either professionally or personally.  They want to settle down and not uproot kids, spouse has a good job, just like the KC area, etc.  Plus there is a certain amount of age discrimination.  Many stations would rather hire a 30 year old instead of a 50 year old.

KMBC 9 News wins Snow Ratings TV battle.

KCTV 5 came in second in some time slots, third in other time slots.

WDAF 4 was close 2nd at 6am, but slowly fell to last through at the day.

KSHB 41 was in last place all day long, expect at 10pm when they came in 3rd place.

I'm kind of surprised KCTV 5 got as high as 2nd place in some time slots.  I'm also sad to see the closest station to downtown (Fox 4) finish in last place.

Oh well, at the end of day, the local stations still suck.

KCTV 5 posted on their Facebook wall: Heads up. Please let folks who live and work in downtown KC know about this. Prison escapee who is a sex offender on the loose.

It was about this story: http://www.kctv5.com/story/18148632/lan ... ansas-city

FEAR! FEAR! FEAR!

I don't think the story is overblown. I know two women who have been abducted by prison escapees. Fortunately neither was harmed but it was still a trying experience for them.

So are you saying the warning should have been ignored by the press?

No, I'm saying KCTV 5 sees the story as:

Prison escapee who is a sex offender + downtown KC = BIG STORY! PUBLIC FEAR! DOWNTOWN KC IS SO DANGEROUS! RATINGS!!!

It's funny that they didn't care about the residents of Lansing when he escaped the Lansing prison. Why not try to warn them too? It was only a "big story" when there was a report he was spotted near downtown. Which, to KCTV 5, "downtown" can include areas as far South as Waldo, given the accuracy of their reporting as shown in this thread.

The news has been quiet on him since he escaped on April 18 but there was a channel 5 news report. From the website and you can see the TV newscast.
3.Two-time escapee still on the run from Lansing prison

A convicted sex offender still on the loose after escaping from the Lansing Correctional Facility. makes for the fourth inmate to escape there in less than a year and is a two-time escapee himself.

The latest news since April 19th was the reported sighting.

Yes, there was a KCTV 5 report about it on April 19th. But, it wasn't their "lead-in" story like it was for their 5pm newscast today.

Maybe the report of his spotting is a bigger story than the actual prison escape, but it does seem like KCTV 5 is giving into sensationalism once again.

KCTV 5 is the most ridiculous station ever. My buddy always tapes the medium speed pursuits and other things like that for me.

What happened to this KCTV?

Two different women? At different times? If so you should buy a lottery ticket.

No luck at lottery.
One was my niece, the other was the wife of my then boss. Both occurred over 20 years ago. Whether you believe or not is immaterial, it doesn't change the facts.

You might think this latest news story is a sensational, over-hyped story but for many women I think it is not.

Gas leak + Downtown KC = SENSATIONALISM!

Only KCTV 5 gets their helicopter and reports about the "evacuations" going on "all over downtown" because of a gas leak.
