Omaha's biggest mansion for sale

Post by Joemoney »

http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=1 ... d=10239080

WEBSITE SET UP TO MARKET IT:  http://www.9800harney.com/

Nine bedrooms, 18 baths, indoor and outdoor swimming pools.

The price is not being disclosed, but I personally guess it will sell for around $6million even though it cost $9million to build back in 1983.

WOW is all I can say.

Wow is right - why would an idiot be so stupid to build a 9M home 25 years ago and sell it for 6M now?

Just by standard inflation rate, it should've doubled or tripled in cprice over that time.  What a total moron to fail that badly.

You don't know the half.  The current owner bought it in 1994 and paid, get this, $1.8m (yes, one point eight million) after the original owner paid $9m to build it.

Even more, the EMPTY 4 ACRE LOT (without house) cost $600,000 in 1981!!!

that is the least attractive $6M house ever.  it is huge, but it isn't very classy imo.  architectural dick-waving isn't my style, but whatever blows your hair back.

18 bathrooms?  give me a fucking break.  that is like going to ruth's chris steakhouse and ordering fifteen dinners for yourself just because you can.

If I bought it, I'd add 2 more bathrooms just to put it at an even 20.  20 sounds better than 18.

Spend that much for a house and you still live in Omaha.  :D

I kid, I kid, I used to live there! It is a nice town.

I'd buy it. It has a really nice lawn. Then I'd tear the place down and start from scratch. I'm Kansas City like that. (KIDDING)

Harney Parkway sounds too much like Horney Parkway.
I'm not going to buy it.

What a gaudy piece of shit. Why would anyone want a house that big, unless they were trying to overcompensate for something?

They took down the interior pics on the website.  Oh well.

Here is the birds eye view on Live.

Switch it to "Bird's Eye" and then pan a bit to the left (west).

It cost $9m to build new 25 years ago.  Preowned Omaha mansions are cheap because people like building their own.

This house, which is in the same neighborhood as the one above, is the "other" 20,000 sqft mansion in the neighborhood.  (Yes, Omaha has two 20k sqft mansions in the same neighborhood, read'em and weap KC)  It's currently for sale for just under $2m.

http://www.npdodge.com/idx_home.cfm?mls=20800017

THIS house originally cost $1.5 million to build in 1972.  To give you some comparison.  The Playboy Mansion (LA one) was sold in 1971 for $1.1m, which was at that time, a record for Los Angeles real estate.  So Omaha had a mansion worth more than any house (so far) in Los Angeles in 1972.  And now 35 years later, this house is selling for just $1.9m. (Playboy Mansion today is probably worth $50million, even without it's "fame value")  Some of Omaha's biggest mansions are sometimes difficult to unload.
