I wish The Cure were playing Sprint Center as May can be rainy and cold at night.  BTW when do Cure tickets go on sale?  They are not available on ticketmaster.

I am putting myself at risk for embarassment here, but I like the Moody Blues!  :-(

I might actually go see Steve Miller. Has anyone seen a relatively recent show?  Is it a good show?

Don't be embarrassed.  I love the Moody Blues.  I saw them in Phoenix at an open-air amphitheater (Sandstone I think) years ago. I was a lovely experience.  Justin Hayward rules.

I would love to see a reunion tour of The Guess Who as well.

It's really nice seeing Starlight turn into more of a Class A venue for the region. Maroon 5 tour will swing through there.

Mon 05/19/08 65 Days Of Static
Mon 05/19/08 The Cure

Sat 06/07/08 Rush

Mon 06/09/08 James Taylor

Thu 06/12/08 Chicago
Thu 06/12/08 The Doobie Brothers

Wed 07/02/08 Joe Cocker
Wed 07/02/08 Steve Miller Band

Wed 08/06/08 Yes

Fri 08/29/08 "Rock The Light"
Fri 08/29/08 Casting Crowns
Fri 08/29/08 Decemberadio
Fri 08/29/08 Sanctus Real

Sat 08/30/08 "Rock The Light"
Sat 08/30/08 Jeremy Camp

Fri 09/26/08 Augustana
Fri 09/26/08 Counting Crows
Fri 09/26/08 Maroon 5

Now all we need to do is tear down Sandstone and build a 20,000+ seat amphitheater on the river front or near Crown Center.

That would be entirely kick ass.  I would LOVE to see an outdoor ampitheater on the CC surface lots.  River front would be awesome too, but I'm damn sick of the surface lots at CC.

Not going to happen, but displacing some of the filthy scrap yards and industrial mess in the west bottoms for a 20k seat amphitheater and adjacent small scale entertainment district would be pretty sweet. Build it up, create some synergy with Kemper and the AR complex, install some funicular-type-things to transport people between that development, through a tunnel and up into the P&L / Sprint Center area...yeah. I'll just keep dreaming.

I'm impressed with the quality of acts and touring musicals Starlight has been getting the last few years. Have they always been getting good acts, or is this a recent phenomenon? Is there new management? Or are the renovations a reason why?

could it have something to do with the gaping hole left by verizon amphitheater?

Verizon Amp is back as Sandstone and is booking several tours (see pollstar.com), but some may be going to Sprint Center.

I've got tickets for The Cure at Starlight in May.  Friend just got tickets and said only the back row is left.  Looks like it should sell out by showtime.

Sandstone is still a shell of what it was (a mediocre amphitheater in the middle of no man's land). Jack Johnson and Warped are the biggest acts they have coming. Vans Warped would've been much more interesting at Liberty Memorial or returning to Lawrence.

Starlight has already PWNed Sandstone for the season at this point.

I saw the Moody Blues at Red Rocks in Denver about 10 years ago with the Denver Orchestra.  Be nice to see them team up with KC's Philharmonic orchestra.  Best show I've ever seen.  Sheryl Crow, Missouri native, has now joined Fleetwood Mac and rumor has it they will be touring together.  These bands (Eagles, Stones, Who, Fleetwood Mac) would all be a bit too big for Starlight I would think.  Some of their followings remain very high.

Starlight is probably going to have another big Summer:

Jason Mraz                 May 6, 2009
NIN \ Jane's Addiction May 27, 2009
REO Speedwagon \ STYX June 4, 2009
No Doubt                         July 6, 2009
The Fray                         July 22, 2009

I didn't live in this region during Sandstone's glory days (whenever that was) but Starlight seems like a such a better venue in almost every way. Great to see some of the big Summer amphitheater tours stop at this venue (NIN/Jane's will be HUGE for them). I like the mix of comedy, music and theatre-- more of a performance center than a mudpatch.

Didn't know this band was back together.  Though Gwen Stefani was solo.
