Old silo off I-35 and SWB

Does anybody know if this hideous looking structure is ever going to come down?  I know a few years ago they demo'd the silo, but they've left the brick structure standing with all its broken out windows.  It just looks trashy driving from South I-35 towards downtown with this ugly structure right off the freeway.  Do we have any pyros on board?

Its actually a historic Brewery and I believe there are multiple threads on it - search "imperial brewery".

Take another look next time you drive by - its actually a pretty neat building with lots of architectural detail.  It would make a pretty cool office conversion for a medium sized company - but the road access is terrible since it is surrounded by a cliff and very busy rail lines.

Agreed, I pass by it every day and would love to see it restored.

I was looking for pictures I took 2 years ago and think I found one.  Is this the structure?

Yeah but that is definitely not its most becoming vantage point.

no complaints with the photography.  :)  It just looks more interesting on the front side - the part that faces the BLVD.  It has a pretty cool facade

If they knocked off all of the tanks and sil equipment and reopened the windows that have been filled in it would be sweet.  I suggested an office use as opposed to residential since it overlooks the highway.  Unfortunately there is just no way back there.  I guess it is halfway promissing that the RR just knocked down the silos and left the building.

Awesome pictures mean.

There is a road that goes by it next to the liquor store that advertises 5% Beer (I love that sign btw) but like you said, it's pretty much inaccessible if there is a train blocking the intersection for an hour.

I found another pic showing the tracks:

shortly after they tore down the silos, I drove through that connection to Cambridge and they had a survey crew out working the open ground there to the south of the building which made me wonder if they didn't have plans for the building but nothing seems to have come of it thus far.

It would be awesome if it could be a brewery again.

I thought KC Jayhawk was talking about the huge white silo on Rainbow and SWB. What is that thing?

Well there ya go, scratch your silly idea of reopening the Busy Bee Brewpub and open the Imperial Brewery and Casino!  Imagine the possibilities!

Out-produce Boulevard, become the biggest regional brewery in the Midwest
Have plenty of parking!

Plus he would have a special feature to help reduce drunken driving - "sorry you are going to have to sit tight and sober up for an hour while we wait for the train to pass."  :D

Haha, nice.

But no, of course. Just cleaning that place up and getting it habitable will cost around five thousand times my startup budget.
