Warehouse to Come down
The warehouse on the south-east corner of Grand Blvd and Missouri Ave is coming down soon. I talked to the guys digging up Missouri Ave this morning (progress is nice but a back hoe breaking through asphalt at 5:45 AM is a little harsh) and they said they were digging a hole for the water department to come by and shut off the water so the building could be torn down. This evening there was also a hole at Oak and Independence so everything but the south-east corner must be coming down. (the taller structure on the SE corner is a historic building and protected)
please move if this should be some where else

Is anything replacing it?
You know, Dude, I myself dabbled in pacifism once. Not in 'Nam of course.

A banker from Lawson owes it. Supposedly he was going to put a bank in but have not heard anything definite.

seems like there was a mention of this in another thread... either a 2nd location for missouri bank or relocation of the BoA ATM?RiverMarketDweller wrote: A banker from Lawson owes it. Supposedly he was going to put a bank in but have not heard anything definite.

That would be mildly amusing. Tear down an entire building then erect, (drumroll), a glorious ATM!DaveKCMO wrote: seems like there was a mention of this in another thread... either a 2nd location for missouri bank or relocation of the BoA ATM?

That sounds usual. I have even seen them tear an ATM down to put in nother ATM.

Re: Warehouse to Come down
It would have made more sense to convert the warehouse into a bank. Have the first drive in and through teller windows.

I hope to god they have six drive through lanes and ample parking in front of the building for the convenience of motorists.

Knowing Bank of America, The regular customers will not get to use the drive up window right at the side of the building.

The fences have gone up and it looks like some work has started.
There are also guys tearing down the brick, garage-like(?) building to the south of the lofts there. Any idea if that might become something? Are the two tear downs related?

they are demoing everything except the old Muhelbach (sp?) bulding at the SE corner. They've been removing asbestos the last few weeks.

The old KC Speedometer building is being torn down for.......a parking lot. It is for 523 Grand, the Helping Hand Loft building. Not related to the Pisciotta/Bank of Lawson.maec55 wrote: The fences have gone up and it looks like some work has started.

Re: Warehouse to Come down
Well the guy who owns Pisciotta warehouse also owns the land behind 523 Grand and would not come to any sale or long term lease arrangement. The building only has 26 underground spots but 27 units, with some units contractually guaranteed two parking spots.chrizow wrote: jesus h christ. half the freaking river market is a parking lot. stop the madness!
The building coming down could not structurally accommodate parking inside it and was trying to fall down on its own if you looked closely. The trees to the east of the building are being saved and even the vines growing up the north side of 523 Grand are being worked around.
While many would like downtown residents to go car free it is just not a realistic option.

So let's continue to destroy the existing urban fabric. What good is living downtown if every residential project is surrounded by parking?RiverMarketDweller wrote: While many would like downtown residents to go car free it is just not a realistic option.
