I've been wondering what was going on. Good to see something take that empty space.

Small blurb about this in the Biz Journal today.
The design center is an urban studio for fifth year architecture students. There are 16 students enrolled from KU and KSU.

KC Design Center will move
Serda's office will move in July, a month before the center's urban studio begins fall semester classes. The class enrolls 16 fifth-year graduate students, evenly split from the University of Kansas and Kansas State University.
The garage is leased to DST Realty Inc. Its ground floor has been empty for several years, since a child-care center closed.

I was hoping a restaurant would go in there. The storefront has room for some limited outdoor seating on Baltimore and in that little access alley between it and the Dwight Building.
There is no fifth destination.

i was actually hoping that they'd bring the frontage all the way out to the sidewalk, like the rest of baltimore.FangKC wrote: I was hoping a restaurant would go in there. Not to flame, but i couldn't resist. KU and KSU are both excellant schools, but the idea that KSU is better isn't exactly truthful.KCPowercat wrote: I bet the KSU grads are running circles around those hawks

Why isn't UMKC or even MU part of this? It would be cool if they could put up drawings etc in the windows of what they are doing.

The UMKC Program is actually KSU. Your diploma comes from KSU.GRID wrote: Why isn't UMKC or even MU part of this? It would be cool if they could put up drawings etc in the windows of what they are doing.

Re: Kansas City Design Center - 1020 Baltimore
It's amazing that the UM System doesn't have a real architecture program at any of its campuses. Ditto for the lack of a real urban planning program in the city itself. Come on, UMKC, it's stuff like this that hold you back from being a real urban university.
