Local Pig to former Winslow's space will surely be a great move for both LP and City Market. Perfect anchor for that corner.

However, it is slightly disappointing that the little sliver of the East Bottoms that was starting to become a niche destination lost one of its primary, long time anchors (Local Pig/Pigwich, Knuckleheads, Rieger). That whole (albeit small) building will be empty after both Urban Provisions and Local Pig have gone...

Do we know it's a move and not an expansion?

I don't know that--Dave may have additional insight.

Did they confirm what exactly they were doing? Adding location? Moving? Butcher counter and/or pigwich?

I was surprised to find a week old permit hadn't made the public rounds yet....

From what I've heard, this is a relocation and not an expansion. I hope I'm wrong, as I'll miss the short lived action down in the East Bottoms.

Biz Journal piece on Local Pig move to City Market. KC Soda Co is moving to 421 Main as part of deal.
https://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/ ... ation.html

Would like to see KC Soda setup an old fashion soda fountain counter, which would be a great fit for RM/CM. I've suggested it to them walking in a couple times and got a blank look.

People are already mad about this move saying they will no longer go to Pigwich/Local Pig because of the parking. Freestyle Poke is also having parking issues. I guess people are parking in the lot intended for the building but its only for restaurant patrons till 4pm, after 4 its for residents only so I think some people eating have been getting towed.

^The solution is to get rid of the surface lot, not the restaurants. :) River Market is now one big TOD center. Park in the overflow lots and take streetcar.

But seriously, the Freestyle building lot owner should probably use gated keyfob entry until developed.

Would expect Local Pig traffic to more than triple.

There is my daily KC dose of parking envy!

What happened to the city plan to build a giant garage with street level retail between the market and Delaware?

That's an awful move for KCSoda, less space so have to provide less product mix. Less exposure since you have to enter the City Market corridor (interior) to see it rather than the street location it is located. I love the counter idea, they could have vanilla ice cream and make all sorts of floats for counter service but that can't happen in that location. #sad

I believe it died. Hopefully--but what is dead can never truly die. Something like that anyway.

Whatever. I bet their sales double within a year.

"Nobody goes there anymore. It’s too crowded."

Freestyle was packed all weekend.

I agree with the thoughts on Local Pig business booming. It will be packed from open to close and will have to add a second location within a year.
