Re: 900 Baltimore Ave.
Great work guys!
Re: 900 Baltimore Ave.
Scott Harris, a River Market resident, was one of those who took up the building’s cause on the Internet, sending e-mails to Mayor Mark Funkhouser and the Kansas City Council.
“It seemed curious,” he said. “The building has been there since 1881, and within the space of a week all of a sudden it needed to be demolished.”
We did good work everyone. Good work!

Re: 900 Baltimore Ave.
yeah how many buldings have we lost due to a hasty decision like this. Maybe the city should fire/not use the services of this "inspector" anymore! And how much could we have saved by fixing vs demolishing.TheBigChuckbowski wrote: $4,000. Wow.

Re: 900 Baltimore Ave.
Honestly whoever made that initial judgment of demolition should be fired.

Seriously! Can anyone find out who made that decision? I'm sure they have been responsible for the removal of many other historic buildings over the years.KCPowercat wrote: Honestly whoever made that initial judgment of demolition should be fired.

Re: 900 Baltimore Ave.
if anyone knows how to contact adam jones, please thank him... he's the real hero here.
also, big thanks to DNA and CCA for formalizing their support. now that downtown's an actual neighborhood with caring residents, this should become a thing of the past.

Pearline_mcfall@kcmo.org might have some additional emails to answer in short order.
That problem in the past has been lack of accountability in these decisions. Time to change that.

Re: 900 Baltimore Ave.
It sounds like the $4,000 is just the price to fix it temporarily. There will be more costs to make more permanent fixes. But still, its ridiculous.Pork Chop wrote: versus the $88,000 to demolition the building.

Hopefully, Adam Jones can put together the financing and develop the site instead.KCMax wrote: It sounds like the $4,000 is just the price to fix it temporarily. There will be more costs to make more permanent fixes. But still, its ridiculous.

Hell yeah! That's a great deal. I was a bit surprised when I read that. Either that building is in absolutely terrible shape or f'n Rick Powell is just sick of the building. In any event, I'd imagine that a qualified developer could make a big profit out of that purchase price. Hence, financing should be easier than the typical 2010 commercial/residential development.grovester wrote: 150k seems like a deal for the building

Perhaps he really is flat broke as he professed to be when trying to foist the costs on the city, and needs the money?KC-wildcat wrote: Either that building is in absolutely terrible shape or f'n Rick Powell is just sick of the building.

Or he gambled he could get a surface parking log for this adjacent two buildings, and lost the gamble?LenexatoKCMO wrote: Perhaps he really is flat broke as he professed to be when trying to foist the costs on the city, and needs the money?

That was my guess, and the game is far from over, although Kevin's report makes it sound good.dangerboy wrote: Or he gambled he could get a surface parking log for this adjacent two buildings, and lost the gamble?
On the cost/value, Adam is a clever and frugal developer, as he has to be. However, this building could well exceed $100 psf to bring around to stable & productive condition. It's not a slam-dunk, easy deal, even if he were given the building. It has been badly neglected.
Re: 900 Baltimore Ave.
I'l like to learn more about becoming a "clever and frugal develepor", where do we find out more about this fellow?
