I feel the same way about Papa John, but was willing to put aside if I could order a pizza with heirloom tomato, morel mushrooms and hand-cranked sausage from Bad Seed :D

I was driving past Engel Bindery at Broadway and SW Blvd today, and it is being completely gutted. Checked out Kiva, and it looks like this is the future home of Sunsource Homes, a design/build firm specializing in green design and renewable energy.

Permits say a third floor is being added, and they requested (and got) a variance for their minimum parking requirement.

Word from the owner is that it will be open Friday, December 6th. Hashtags on the Facebook post included #livemusic #whiskey #thetankroom #18th&Grand .
The Tank Room has a situation with frozen pipes and won't open this weekend, either. I'm really pulling for it to open, but at this rate, I'm not counting on any particular weekend. Massive respect to anyone who has ever opened a restaurant/bar/store of any kind.

The Tank Room opened up this past weekend. It is a nice addition along with the Green Lady and is great organic fill-in for the neighborhood. It is pretty great what they have done to a check cashing place.

This view via Google Street View looks a lot different now:

the buildings are at 1515-1517 Walnut St and 2100 Central. Only about 2 dozen apt b/w the projects. but both buildings are currently vacant.

Any updates on this? Supposed to be done at the end of 2013.

1515 Walnut is looking good. They have a facebook page with project updates and website http://www.1515walnut.com I don't know how much further they have to go but they've already built the additional story on the building.

somehow i missed this post last month, but this will also be the new home of Elements of Green once the renovation is complete. i believe they're still planning to be "off the grid", too.

I'm excited about this. I'm expecting it will be overpriced and have limited selections, but I'm looking forward to not having to drive way out into the 'burbs every time I need something for my dog or fish tank.

Funny, remember that article that had KC ranked as the second most redneck city in America? One of the things they based this off was number of taxidermy shops, and here we are getting a funky, hipstery taxidermist in one of our funkiest, hipsteryiest blocks in the city lol. If this doesn't say redneck, then I don't know what does.

It's a beautiful store that only works with animals that died of natural causes. It's on par with some stores I've seen in SF and Portland. One of my favorite stores in town.
