Has anyone seen polling on this location? Like I said I had saw unreleased polling that the East Village vote would have failed. Curious what this one looks like?

I haven’t seen the polling data myself but have been told they feel very positive they’ll get a winning (yes) vote right now.

Similar to a post above he said populous is optimistic of keeping oak from being totally vacated. Excited to hear that.

Other thing she told me that I hadn't heard is he mentioned east village would have required rebuild of the east loop (shout out Grid) and modot had no appetite for that.

Also that they are talking with Arts KC to make the finished building a better crossroads fit.
Feds, state and city were all opposed to EV. The royals have been too nice in accepting all blame for the rollout but they still need money from these people, so zipped lips.

Have the Royals said anything about the development along Oak going up at the same time as the stadium?

How the hell did we get this far down the line -- including another round of demolition and displacement in EV itself -- before EV was "suddenly" ruled out? The feds don't control land use and there are lots of federal facilities next to more dangerous things. That also doesn't bode well for the marketing of EV alternatives. Will they allow towers? Are any of the ULI concepts allowable, for example?

Good question.

this was not a full readout of what he said, it is only new things told to me that I hadn't heard on here or elsewhere.

Totally bogus.

Someone wanted it in EC and made it happen.

Everything else is cover.

Couldn't the Royals use the mayor or city manager to push this narrative? Upsetting the Feds hasn't stopped them previously from calling out the FAA for their height restrictions downtown. And what would the CM have to lose by making this public? You'd think they would've publicly acknowledged these restrictions to accumulate support behind the EC site.

That's only part of the story. Of course the Mayor, City Manager, Cordish, Downtown Council and others wanted it in East Crossroads but there were enough complexities with East Village that made it an easy decision for the Royals. It's not as simple as some big swinging dick wanted it somewhere else, therefore it's going somewhere else.

While tending the front yard today was approached by both a yes and a no canvaser within a couple hours of each other. They both offered yard signs.

The 3 block radius thing is ridiculous. Hopefully the lost revenue clauses are from tax statements not just whatever these business claim.

I still think the businesses should get the same deal that those affected by the streetcar did.

The EC location, however, is a significantly better location in every aspect except for the empty status of the East Village land. In every other way, EC is the better location and it will complement rather than compete with another existing KC private/public investment in the P&L District. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the players involved conspired to make it happen. That's what should have happened.

I'll go to my grave that the EV location could have been built out just like EC is proposed and it would have fed the P&L. I've seen people walk a mile to get to a KC Current NWSL game, you can't tell me they wouldn't walk to EV to/from a game. It's water under the bridge at this point.

Someday when we finally release the EV land and let someone build there, it may help prove my opinion.

I’ll say the same about North Loop, a site larger than what is currently proposed (but too small everyone said?), directly on the streetcar route, would require little destruction, have the best skyline views and benefit the removal of a highway gorge.

That Northloop site looks a lot smaller?

We will never agree on this and it's certainly water under the bridge, but comparing people's willingness to walk to the first ever NWSL game held at a purpose built stadium for women soccer isn't a great comparison. It wasn't just about the distance, which was a major barrier but it was about the fact that East Village would have been it's own, new area. Not an addition to Crossroads or PNL but a brand new "Village" that would have things built to contain and retain guests, ideally keeping them at the village. It would have been a disaster.

The east crossroads location isn't just better simply due to proximity but also in design. It won't be designed as it's own isolated area, but built to try and fit in day one to it's surroundings while doing the least amount of damage to existing businesses downtown.

Six square blocks. More than East Crossroads, and that's what makes me mad. It was dismissed for being "too small" and then they chose something smaller.

I think it was more than that. Namely the fact it was a shit site for a baseball stadium.
