The modern DJ/music scene is finally reaching KC, definitely an attraction for those in 20s (not to say it can't be enjoyed by those older).

S/O if you ever went to the OG In The Lowest Ferns, what a spot.

Yes. However, that proposal was blown out of proportion and was nowhere near ever happening. It's 100% dead now. Larks is a vaporware entertainment concept. They have no actual, physical locations and no sign of being able to make one happen. Just digital artwork and teasers. Much like a lot of other vaporware projects folks are latching onto these days.
Starting to get a lot of instagram ads for this. Allegedly opening this spring. No firm date given

Thanks for the update. As it stands, this company has yet to develop and open even a single location. Not sure I believe they'll suddenly crank out one here.

Breaking the wheel: Demolition starts on West Bottoms building ahead of $526.7M development
SomeraRoad Inc. has started tearing down the former Weld Wheel Industries Inc. building as a precursor to the first projects in its $526.7 million West Bottoms plan.

Workers on Monday were doing interior demolition on the nine-story building at 933 Mulberry St. Last week, Kansas City permitted the full structure's teardown by Remco Demolition LLC.
...
The city in April agreed to give SomeraRoad $2.6 million to help offset demolition costs. The New York developer says the work will be a six-month process, factoring in the building's abatement, demolition expected to occur through May and material removal set to wrap up in the third quarter.

Even though this building has been empty for decades, this bothers me way more than anything in the way of the stadium in the Crossroads district.

Taking down that building will change the whole architectural and historic feel of the west bottoms. It could have been saved. It should have been saved.

Some of the complaints about the building were graffiti and missing windows. The same thing was said about The View before it was renovated.

If they can renovate that train station in Detroit like they have, they could have renovated the weld building. The city should have stepped up
and made it happen since that project going there is heavily subsidized.

And like I have said all along, I'm not a fan of new construction in the west bottoms. Not when 60% of the loop and crossroads is still undeveloped and areas like the river front and jazz district still need development.

Development in the WB is not helping downtown KC become more dense, it's probably doing more harm than good as it's isolated and every body will need a car. Development down there may as well be in a suburb. Developing the WB is especially bad since if it's requiring the tear down of one of the most substantial buildings in the area.

Essentially, with a gutted Weld Building, a developer is getting a multi-story concrete and steel frame already constructed. Put a new facade on it. It's also a structure that would have interesting views from the upper floors.

Worst part is that you’ll never be able to go that tall in the West Bottoms again

That structure was built in 1910 as the Ridenour-Baker Grocery Company Building. The downtown airport wasn't built until 1927.
