Which ones?
the DINOs
Which is who?

There are 10 Senate and 56 House Dems. Who are the "smart ones" or DINOs in that list that will break ranks to override a Democratic Governor's veto of a severely conservative budget?

Don't need any in the Senate just in the House.

Which is who again? Which of those Democrats will lose their 2014 re-election if they don't vote to override a very popular Democratic Governor's veto of a wildly right-wing tax cut?

since most districts are gerrymandered, most of these seats are safe

Not sure exactly about state seats, but generally speaking 55% is a landslide.

We're talking about a veto override here, not some conservative wolf-whistle legislation. Tim Jones won't even be able to line up all the Rs for a veto override.

In my experience, landslide usually means at least a 15 point spread.

This doesn't exactly relate to this thread, but I didn't think it warranted a new thread.

Does anyone know of a good resource to identify what the total sale tax rate is for an area and a break out of where each percentage point of the tax is coming from?

It would be nice if there was an interactive map the city (or MARC for the metro?) had that you could click on that would break down how much your taxes are and what they are attributed to.

I emailed city staff and they came back with this link

http://www.kcmo.org/idc/groups/finance/ ... ur2012.pdf

though i don't think that includes TIF (?) and it is hard to tell what the boundaries are for each district...

Might get something from the state. The State is the body that notifies the retailers what sales tax to collect since the sales tax is submitted by the retailer to the state and then from the state to the various tax entities.

Good idea akp, thanks.

I did get another response from the city that pointed me to this website.

I had never seen this before...will definitely waste some time checking it out.

Opponents of Missouri corporate tax cut bill take to the skies
Progress Missouri Inc., a non-profit organization based in Jefferson City and Columbia, is planning on flying an aerial banner over a high school or college football game in the home district of a legislator who supports the cut in an apparent effort to publicly shame those who vote in favor of overturning Gov. Jay Nixon's June 5 veto of the "Broad-Based Tax Relief Act."

Impact of state tax changes, reduced classroom spending being felt, officials say
“We are spending less than our parents spent on educating us and our grandparents spent on educating them,” Heim said. That trend, he said, “needs to change.”

Brownback has called his tax changes a “real live experiment,” which he said will boost the economy and lure jobs. His office released a statement Thursday that said state general fund spending to schools has increased since Brownback took office.

But Heim and other educators say Brownback’s figures include increased state contributions for the teacher retirement system, which never was counted before as classroom spending, and recently has had to be boosted because of pension problems.

Johnson County Manager Hannes Zacharias said the tax cuts are putting the state in a revenue crunch that affects county governments.
Later in the conference, Justin Ross, assistant professor at the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University, said the measure will provide incentives for companies to change their tax structure for tax purposes, which will reduce revenue to the state, while not necessarily increasing any economic activity.
