Re: Misc Crossroads News
There's already a CrossFit gym in the Crossroads itself, between Locust and Cherry. I guess demand in that area is high enough to add another one in on the other side of the district.
All things considered, I'd say that's a pretty good thing as an indicator of both affluence and concern for personal health in the urban core.

Re: Misc Crossroads News
crossroads is a dinner destination, unlike the loop, so she shouldn't have a problem attracting evening business.

It also would open for dinner Thursday through Saturday, and during special events downtown.

This is great. Such a wonderful concentration of restaurants down there. Think if bluestem and justus drugstore had restaurants down here also.

Justus was going to open a space next to Kauffman, not sure what ever became of that.kboish wrote:This is great. Such a wonderful concentration of restaurants down there. Think if bluestem and justus drugstore had restaurants down here also.

Re: Misc Crossroads News
correct. my source indicated it would be "challenging" to build out a restaurant in that space.chrizow wrote:davekcmo reported this fell through.KCPowercat wrote: Justus was going to open a space next to Kauffman, not sure what ever became of that.

I thought he couldn't get enough investor backup. Sure would like to see Jonathan find a way to get into the city.

could be related. high cost of build out prevents investors from signing on?earthling wrote:I thought he couldn't get enough investor backup. Sure would like to see Jonathan find a way to get into the city.

Re: Misc Crossroads News
it would be cool for justus to open in that space, but really i dont know that it's all that necessary to be a block from the kauffman. almost everyone arrives there by car, in the garage, it's not like there is a lot of foot traffic spillover. i would think anywhere in the crossroads would be a good location for him. maybe he could anchor the E Xroads, plenty of space over there.

and that's been the biggest disappointment ever. only webster house has seen any significant bump.chrizow wrote:almost everyone arrives there by car, in the garage, it's not like there is a lot of foot traffic spillover.

Re: Misc Crossroads News
we went to the opera a few weeks ago. the average age of the patron was at least 65, and i would imagine that 0.2% lived anywhere near downtown. might be different for other kinds of events, but i am not surprised that the kauffman hasn't kickstarted a new wave of pedestrian action around the facility.DaveKCMO wrote:and that's been the biggest disappointment ever. only webster house has seen any significant bump.chrizow wrote:almost everyone arrives there by car, in the garage, it's not like there is a lot of foot traffic spillover.

Re: Misc Crossroads News
I think WH gets a bump only because it's visible from the front door of the Kauffman. Apart from (maaaaaybe) Los Tules, what's over there that a 65 year old would walk to? If a restaurant opened immediately south of the KCPA, it would do very well. Instead, the entire south side of 17th is dark by 6pm every night.

Webster House has been a hit for that demographic for a long time. We've walked to Nica's and Snow&Co before shows. Anybody in the area better be targeting the ads to where those eyeballs are. KCPT, Kauffman, Nelson, and put out clowns and ballons on the day of the show so they can find you.

Re: Misc Crossroads News
to chrizow's point earlier, the typical patron won't be stopping their car on the way into the garage to talk to a clown.grovester wrote:Webster House has been a hit for that demographic for a long time. Re: Misc Crossroads News
The folks going to webster house are parking at the kauffman and walking there. You need to get them to walk just a bit farther. A challenge for sure, but if you want their money you're going to have to work for it.
