So we're unsure if this really happened? Did you hear this from a secret source?

I don't think J Smith is much of a secret.
This sounds like a Cordish's fuck up - hard to imagine that the tennants decided that this was a good fix. I think I would be a pretty pissed tennant if my landlord landed me in the news and got me suspended for this.

I was being a bit sarcastic. I just didn't understand why it was a "rumor". Seems like a better fit for the general thread but maybe I'm just nit picky today.

yeah that sounds gross...I don't think if has any effect on the businesses or their food quality though thankfully. That seems like more than a health code violation for these restaurants.....

Yeah, sounds like this was down in the parking garage, not anywhere near the food or dining rooms. Sucks for the restaurants that they had to shut down and bear the scarlet letter when it would appear the problem was somewhere on down the line - both litterally and figuratively.

Is it Cordish or the city at fault here? I am not sure, but just asking.

I believe its going in one of the retail spaces across from the Midland. And they're trying for a late April opening.
Hours will be 7-6:30 M-F, shorter hours on Sat.

By pure chance we ran into a restaurant owner in Miami who will be coming out to KC in a couple weeks to talk to Cordish about opening a
Serendipityrestaurant in the P&L. He described Serendipity as a "Cheesecake Factory on steroids." Their current location is in NYC and is quite well known.
We talked for a while about the P&L, the demographics and the attendance. They seemed a bit concerned that there was not consistent traffic. With restaurants in Miami, NYC, Chicago, Vegas, and San Diego, he is used to keeping the seats warm.
I think having Serendipity would be a great attraction for Kansas City. But probably more of a Plaza place than P&L since this is a more family/kid-themed restaurant.

I'm not sure a person could possibly come up with a more unfortunate description for a restaurant concept.

I'm for anything that will bring more people downtown, but I hate overly cute names on menus and I have to wonder about a $14 cheeseburger. Can it really be worth that?

I second the thought, but Cheesecake does a good business even though they are crap.

In NYC a $14 burger is the norm

Agree with that, although families coming to SC for "Disney on Ice" need somewhere to eat too. Although I don't know if that's a steady enough customer base to support a restaurant.

What a bunch of uppity people we have on this board. Turning your nose up at Cheesecake Factory? It's not that bad. And it has damn good cheesecake. It's not like it's Applebees or Chili's.
