Same here. It's made me want to walk everyday. I grabbed lunch there and took it to the Living Room and sat and ate a nice lunch in the great weather. It was a lovely lunch day.

Ridiculous...Stud wrote: It will be interesting to see the responses to the new grocery store in a year. Bet Cosentino's only did this because of the huge tax breaks they received and they were committed to the project before the economy tanked.
A few shootings and robberies and the urban grocery will be the next Bannister Mall.

Re: Cosentino's Grocery downtown
Went back there again this afternoon for lunch and groceries. The lunch crowd was significantly bigger today than on opening day. Every register in the place was stacked up 15-20 deep. They even added a dedicated register for the salad bar.
We actually headed down to Planet Sub for lunch (where there was sadly not much of a line at all) and then headed back to the market to do our shopping. After checking out, we were greeted by a representative from Associated Wholesale Grocers who gave us a big goody bag full of Best Choice brand products to try out.

Did you see any minorites walking to the grocery store? I had heard that the City was forcibly requesting them to enter through the back door.GRID wrote: Good lord, this place sucks people out of downtown office building like a giant vacuum.

Even though the store itself closes 10, when does the actual prepared-foods section shut down?
I'm wondering about the possible market for people who want a light meal after getting done seeing a show at the Sprint Center or Midland Theater.

Seriously, what kind of low-roller wants to spend bucks on an SC event and a night out only to cap it off by a meal at a grocery store?IraGlacialis wrote: Even though the store itself closes 10, when does the actual prepared-foods section shut down?

Good point and good question. I don't know the answer, but i've got to stop by there this evening for a few things, so i'll ask the deli people about their shut-down time then.IraGlacialis wrote: Even though the store itself closes 10, when does the actual prepared-foods section shut down?

I did ask the meat counter people what time they begin rolling up their wares, and they told me, "Around nine, but if there's something you specifically wanted and the cases were cleaned out for the evening, someone could easily go in the back and get it for you." They were so remarkably nice about it too. This place's staff is so unlike so many other stores. You know what I mean too- you ask a question and they make sure you know you're really putting them out by expecting an answer.

I am and have been for 15 years...I attribute the longevity of the marriage to NOT taking my bride to grocery stores for a meal when there are (now) dozens of cool joints within a stones throw.bbqboy wrote: You aren't married, I take it.
You've gotta keep a marriage fresh...allowing it to devolve to the point of grocery gnoshing should be criminal.

A night out is rarely defined by how it begins...it's the finish that's memorable. Taking my lady to a grocery store after a night out is like buying a new Lexus and loading compost manure in the back seat on the way home from the dealership.

What a snobby statement. I'm married and my wife and I will be going to see Buddy Guy and B.B. King in February. We both work in education and it's already cost us over a $100 to buy tickets to the show. This may not be a lot of money to you, but with a small child and limited budget, we do what we can. We've already talked that it might be fun to get a quick meal at Consentino's before the show. Sorry I don't meet your level of sophistication, but not to worry, we'll have a great time regardless.Slappy the Wang wrote: Seriously, what kind of low-roller wants to spend bucks on an SC event and a night out only to cap it off by a meal at a grocery store?

There was a TON of people in that store before the ice thing at sprint a few days ago. Looked like a lot of people were taking advantage of the prepped food.

The Sprint Center holds 18,000 or so. Not all of them will be able to or want to eat at 801 Chophouse or the Bristol. I am one of those who would consider eating at the store.

I never said that people will be doing sit-down dining on a date there.Slappy the Wang wrote: Seriously, what kind of low-roller wants to spend bucks on an SC event and a night out only to cap it off by a meal at a grocery store?

I was more giving the idea of grabbing a quick prepared meal (such as a deli sandwich or gyro) after the show and before heading back home. Even if you factor in a dinner before the show, there may be a urge just to get something simple to chow down on afterwards (whether it be due to a small dinner, long show, really long ride home, or just one fast digestive system).
And to be fair, not everybody who goes to the events is going on a date. Some are family outings, some are just with friends, and some go alone just to enjoy the show. Just because the show was a special occasion does require the whole event to be so formal.
