Re: The Official Kansas City Weather Thread
wasnt there a pretty large tornado that hit downtown salt lake city? and the outskirts of nashville too? im not sure, but i think the reason why they dont hit downtown areas is because the buildings block some of the hot/cold updraft air that is needed to form tornados.
how devastating would it be to see a huge tornado rip up downtown KC. daym

I do believe it's getting nasty out.

Wait, wait! It can't rain! We don't have a rolling roof yet!!
It's hailing in Belton (where I was) but nothing has happened yet in Gladstone (where I am now).

Animal Control is needed in eastern Johnson County (KS). It's raining like cats and dogs...

It's eerily quiet, downtown.

Re: The Official Kansas City Weather Thread
It was funny how KC was completely encircled by massive storms and once again all we got was some gentle rain.
Nice 360-degree lightning show from the roof though -- the roof where it was perfectly safe to be since the closest actual storms were 10 miles away.

In conclusion, Kansas City has such wonderful weather that whenever anything besides sunlight happens, news programs get interrupted.
I think we have it pretty good.

Re: The Official Kansas City Weather Thread
Anyone else downtown notice the crazy rain that fell sometime between 6:30 and 7:00 last night?
I was on the patio at Harry's Country Club and it started raining very lightly, Except the rain was falling on exactly one half of the patio. Those on the dry side were wondering why those on the other side were looking skyward and moving under the umbrellas. The odd part? Yes, there were big storm clouds massing many miles to the south, but above us was a blue sky except for a tiny wisp of a cloud directly overhead.
About 10 minutes later it started raining again -- this time on everyone and a little harder -- enough to make some people move indoors. It rained steadily for about 2 or 3 minutes. Except this time there were no clouds above us at all... the rain was falling from a clear blue sky.

I believe the phenomina is from supersaturation of moisture in the troposphere, or something like that.

That happened a few weeks ago too. I was grilling outside and it started raining, but it seemed like the raincloud was only over our house. I felt like Charlie Brown.

What was really strange I thought was how, at 8:30pm last night, it seemed as light outside as it would be at say, 5:30. Then it got dark really quick.

I have some awesome pictures of the sun and fierce clouds all hanging out together. I'll dig them up and post a few.

I am spending this week in a very well-cooled simulation center at Fort Leavenworth. I went outside to make a phone call yesterday, and saw that the AC units have hoses pointed at them, blasting nonstop.
