Re: kcscout.net
Channel 9 is now using Scout camera feeds in its traffic reports. However the image quailty is pretty poor. OK for the web, but not so much for TV.

Is the KC Scout site down? I haven't been able to get any page on it for the past few days.

Re: kcscout.net
It was down for awhile...back up now.
Seems very slow for me lately though. I would guess bandwidth issues as more people hear of it and start to use it.

It's about time...for several months, the site was unusable.

Re: kcscout.net
Maybe they finally bought more bandwidth... Normal use is OK, but coping with traffic spikes during major storms has been an ongoing problem.

Re: kcscout.net
from their alerts it looks like they've made the refresh 5 minutes instead of the 10 seconds or whatever it used to be.
That combined with more bandwidth is probably the answer to why it's much quicker.
They have almost all the news stations using their feeds now, so probably had to get something figured out.

Yeah I think making the default refresh rate 5 min intead of 10 sec fixed the problem.

Another storm, and of course Scout is inaccessible. They *really* need to upgrade their bandwith and/or server capacity.

Re: kcscout.net
I emailed them and complained about the bandwidth issues, as well as them not using the signs at all when 2 wrecks on 435 had traffic at a standstill. They've always replied in the past, so we'll see how this goes.

Re: kcscout.net
Here's what I got back on the bandwidth:
As for your comment about the web site's bandwidth, you are absolutely correct -- we do need more bandwidth. We have been working toward that goal for some time now and will eventually be able to meet the public's demand -- though not as quickly as everyone would like. For your understanding, yesterday alone, we experienced a 700% increase in the number of visitors to the web site from the previous day. On that previous day -- Monday, February 7 -- we experienced a 200% increase in the number of visitors over the average weekday number. With that said, please know the popularity of the Scout site has not merely increased -- it has skyrocketed! We will -- given time -- meet the demand.

3 new cameras added to Burlington in advance of the Paseo Bridge closure... southbound approach to the HOA Bridge, Armour/210, and the Hwy 9/North Oak split.

I was wondering if they'd do anything to prepare for the closure.

Are there plans for a new HOA bridge as well as the Paseo Bridge??? If I'm not mistaken, the Paseo bridge is near the old Flamingo Casino, or is it now the Isle of Debris?? Anyways, I always roll my windows down when I drive over that bridge goin to NKC because I'm afraid that it'll collapse. It's a huge eyesore, and those lights at night just make it look creepier. You would think that in a relatively decent sized city, a bridge on a major north south route would be more than 4 lanes. Anyways, I'll try to avoid getting run over by all those semis entering the freeway from NKC warehouses and hope the bridge stays afloat.

Re: kcscout.net
No plans for a new HOA bridge, that is a relatively new bridge that replaced the ASB bridge in the 80's. The ASB bridge used to carry auto traffic on the upper level above the rail tracks. You think the Paseo Bridge is scary .skim82 wrote: Are there plans for a new HOA bridge as well as the Paseo Bridge??? If I'm not mistaken, the Paseo bridge is near the old Flamingo Casino, or is it now the Isle of Debris?? Anyways, I always roll my windows down when I drive over that bridge goin to NKC because I'm afraid that it'll collapse. It's a huge eyesore, and those lights at night just make it look creepier. You would think that in a relatively decent sized city, a bridge on a major north south route would be more than 4 lanes. Anyways, I'll try to avoid getting run over by all those semis entering the freeway from NKC warehouses and hope the bridge stays afloat.Â
I could not agree more on the Paseo Bridge situation. It’s a total disgrace that KC and the state has allowed the main bridge across the river to become so dated. There should already be a companion bridge open to route traffic onto as they refurbish the existing bridge and then when they get done with the Paseo we would have two 4 lane bridges carrying traffic.
The Paseo Bridge was never meant to carry interstate traffic, let alone 100,000 vehicles via two interstates. It was only a bridge that carried The Paseo Blvd across the river. Just like we still have other stretches of “interstatesâ€

Re: kcscout.net
Grid I totally agree with you. I'm embarassed to take out-of-towners over the Paseo Bridge from KCI to JoCo. I just take 635 to avoid that bridge. I know that is very shallow, but a person from L.A. is totally gonna make an insult about that bridge. < ------ They have before. It's a shame, you would think that there would be plans to totally revamp the entire I-35/I-29 corridor north of downtown into a magnificnet 8 lane highway with carpool lanes and auxiliary lanes for oncoming semis from the warehouse district down just north of downtown. But, I know that with MoDot, and the KCMO, that will never happen. Plus, with the additional growth of the Northland, isn't that corridor eventually going to have to handle more than 100,000 per day????

Re: kcscout.net
Somewhat off topic, but does anyone know the source of that permanant sickening stench at the north end of the Heart of America bridge, and is it safe to be breathing?  Obviously it's effusing from one of the factories in NKC but I don't know which one or what's being made there that the vomitous odor (often similar to festering dog diarrhea) is a byproduct of.  (Thank god the wind RARELY blows out of the northeast! )

Re: kcscout.net
found some bridge links for you to peruse.
this is a slow site from germany in english, german or french. here's a synopsis?
http://en.structurae.de/index.cfm
This site offers you information on works of structural engineering, architecture or construction through time, history and from around the world. Our documentation begins at the time of the pyramids in Egypt and Roman construction, continues to Romanesque and Gothic churches and through to the Industrial Revolution all the way to today and beyond. Structurae deals mostly with bridges, tunnels, dams, skyscrapers, stadiums, towers, etc. Explore this site to discover the marvelous works of structural engineering. check out his links section too.
check this bridge out. 300 million euros worth. would make a nice paseo bridge.
the bridgemeister http://www.bridgemeister.com/index.htm is a great site for viewing pics of suspension bridges. after looking at a lot of bridges on this site, i can say that the paseo bridge lacks artistry and creativity. it's a very dull looking bridge, discounting the paint job it needs. there is a great lack of pics from the k.c. area on his site though. maybe someone could help him out.
that pic above is of a bridge in the pyrenees in france. it is huge and long. here's a link http://www.bridgemeister.com/pic.php?pid=1312 to more pics of this bridge on the bridgemeister's site. beautiful bridge.
i got lost on the bridgemeister site while looking for paseo bridge links.
