When did the Plaza become part of Downtown? Though I don't concur, officially DT ends at 31st Street.Maitre D wrote:
The HQ are out at 127th & Metcalf. But to your point, they did open a bar on teh Plaza. Last I checked, that is DT.

I may be right. I may be wrong. But there is a lot of gray area in-between.

agree. Plaza is no way DownTown. I consider it more in midtown than downtown if you want to classify itaknowledgeableperson wrote: When did the Plaza become part of Downtown? Though I don't concur, officially DT ends at 31st Street.

Hard Rock Casino opening pushed back
The casino is delayed until late 2009. They're hoping to open it during a race weekend. The rest of the project will be completed by 2011.

When we were at the race that sounded like their plan all along.

The delayed opening appears to not be entirely true:

Indecision is the root of evil.

So now the casino is threatening KCK that if they pass a smoking ban, they won't build the casino...nice.

um, weren't there like at least two other applicants who'd be willing to take their place? FAIL.KCPowercat wrote: So now the casino is threatening KCK that if they pass a smoking ban, they won't build the casino...nice.

I just wonder when KCK got to be so PC. This are the same commissioners that basically kept Coyote Ugly out of VW. This is a stupid ban, Riverside is not going to enact one anytime soon, KCMO and NKC don't have to untill all casinos have a ban. So we are going to put this facility at a disadvantage from day one. Plus Edwardsville and Bonner will not be required to enact the ban either, just KCK. Good Lord, I bet Wyandotte County, KCK in particular, have one of the highest percentages of smoking population in the area.

The Daily Oklahoman just published an article stating the Cherokee tribe is opening a Hard Rock branded casino in Tulsa. It will have a 19 story hotel. Is Hard Rock Casinos going to dilute their brand much like there sister company Hard Rock Brands did in the early 90's? Having a Hard Rock Casino in KCK doesn't seem so special anymore. I am willing to bet the Oklahoma location will be finished before the KCK location.

I know this is petty petty but if Oklahoma gets one, then I don't want one in kansas anymore.

It will. It's not a new casino though. It's just a re-branding and expansion of the existing Cherokee Casino Resort.AndrewN wrote: I am willing to bet the Oklahoma location will be finished before the KCK location.

It looks like the KS Speedway project will still be bigger and more of a draw.

Hard Rock is now a Native-owned company from what I understand. No surprise to see the brand in Oklahoma.
It wouldn't bother me if the KCK casino was called off all together. The industry is shrinking and KC is going to have another Sam' s Town casino graveyard once Hard Rock opens its doors. Besides, Ameristar's current facility cost more money to build 10 years ago than what Cordish is doing with Hard Rock today.

Article confused me. So the developers want more flexibility as to when the build phases of the developments?

Sounds like they don't want to have to build the retail any time soon - we all know just how much luck cordish is having in that department at the moment.

Cordish, General Growth, Simon, RED development, Highwoods. The amount of retail being built everywhere outpaced the ability to keep storefronts filled during a down swing of the magnitude of which we face today. I can tell you some pretty nice shopping areas acrossed the country are having trouble filling space. It isn't fair to put Cordish on the hot seat.LenexatoKCMO wrote: Sounds like they don't want to have to build the retail any time soon - we all know just how much luck cordish is having in that department at the moment.

The state agreement had very hard deadlines and expectations. Additionally the exisiting parameters of the agreement did not allow for guaranteed second cup race or the road course. The reapplication process will guarantee those items in addition to allowing for phased construction.

Kinda funny that Kansas authorized more casino gaming a few years ago, now can't find anyone to build a casino in the state.
